Sonus clay causing major scratches!!

I forget what the alternatives are, but I'm sure RAG has posted something about whichever ones he likes. And I never seem to hear anybody complain about ClayMagic.

The seemingly identical clays from Mother's and Griot's don't mar, but in my experience they don't clean all that well either and can leave clay residue behind.

I'd keep the Sonus gray around for the times when you need aggressive cleaning more than you need to avoid the marring. And again, it's not like it's as aggressive as overspray clay or anything like that.

The previous versions of Sonus gray were from *so* long ago that I'm sure everybody has the current version. Only guys who stockpile stuff the way I do :o are likely to have any of the older version(s) on hand and v2.0 and v3.0 are so similar in appearance that IMO you can't tell by looking at them.

sorry guys, i started this thread and havent had a chance to check it out. yeah, its the gray sonus clay, caused some very unwanted marring on a black BMW x5. when i bought it, i didnt know it was a medium grade. can i expect this to happen everytime i use it.... no thanks!

For what you're doing, you'd be happier just using the blue Clay Magic you can get at Autozone for $11. If you really want the mildest clay around, order the Sonus green ultra-fine clay. Always be sure to use plenty of a good lube. Don't stress too much about what the gray clay did to your paint, it should be simple to correct.

if you check the click and brag under mettalic black x5 w/ menzerna, i already corrected it. you can see the severe marring in a couple of pictures, and you were right, it was very easily corrected, but i would much rather save some time and not screw it up to begin with. haha thanks for the advice
