Sonus 3 before AIO/SG??

My car is about 6 months old which includes time on the car lot. I've had it about 2 months and when I first got it home I clayed it, AIO and SG x3.

Well I'm pretty happy with it but I wondered when it's time to redo it should I hit it with sonus 3 as an extra cleaning step before the AIO? I guess this would be combining a very mild abrasive cleaner and then a chemical cleaner to possibly get the best of both worlds?

I know it's all about prep so I thought one more cleaner step would make it better? :nixweiss

So what I had planned was:

1) Wash

2) Clay

3) Sonus 3

4) AIO

5) SG x 3

This sound like a plan or do you think the Sonus 3 is overkill. Also, while we are on the subject being I don't have any swirls in the car I figured Sonus 2 would be overkill so that's why I chose 3 over 2.

Good, bad, retarded? Lemme know

Sonus SFX-3 is not a paint cleaner. It is a very fine polish with no chemical cleaning properties.

If you need a paint cleaner, the Sonus line has Sonus Paintwork Cleanser, which is more chemical cleaner than polish. The polish in SPC is even more fine than SFX-3. I use SPC to maintain a finish I have perfected with SFX-3. Make sense?

I guess I'm just trying to get the best prepped paint I can before I AIO/SG.

So are you suggesting that after claying I SFX-3, then SPC, then move on to AIO/SG?

Cool, it's in good shape just didn't know if this would make it even better.

How does the chemical cleaner in SPC differ from the cleaner in AIO? I guess it's better because it's a single purpose item specialized just for cleaning?

OK well unless somebody chimes in and says otherwise I'm just going to go with:

1) SPC

2) AIO

3) SG x 3

However, I wonder if going for the AIO for the chemical clean and then going with SPC afterwards would be better.

So one more shot.......does anybody think the SPC is a needed step on a 6month old paint job or should I just go over it with 2 passes of AIO and call it good for the SG?

SPC and AIO have about the same level of cleaning. SPC has a bit more polishing ability, but less chemical cleaning.

I typically recommend to people that they maintain the paint finish with SPC regardless of what type of "wax" they use, because it reduces/removes fine swirls.

If you already have the AIO, use it. Just realize that AIO is about double the cost per ounce of SPC and other paint cleaners.

Thanks DavidB, that's the exact response I was expecting.

I think i'll go ahead and pick up some SPC for later use when I order my sonus glanz later this week.

Thanks as always.
