Sometimes I really miss living in the south...

Yeah, winter sucks, Ive been thinking I need to take up skiing to enjoy half the year. It seems like nor cal would be a nice place to live; its moderate all year round right? I wouldnt want the taxes though.

Wow your tires look so cool in that pic you poste of your truck clean. Theyre so aggressive and mean lookin i love it.
 
I guess it all depends on what you like..I loved living in FL, and didn't mind the hot and humid summers..they were great for logging lots of hours out on the jetskis. Having snow and winter weather here does allow for snowboarding, but it's so dinky compared to out west it's almost not worth it. We have a high of 10F expected this weekend, beautiful...:) It just stinks not being able to wash the truck during the winter..too big to fit in the garage, and too cold outside aside from a quick rinse off at the high pressure place.

Yeah, having a "winter car" has been my only salvation. Being burdened by OCD, I have found that owning an old car to run around in on crappy days has made me a more productive person as I am no longer sitting and fretting about how dirty and sandy my good car is. I find tremendous inner peace knowing it’s enjoying some quiet time in the garage, and ready to roll at a moment’s notice when the roads are clear. We’ve really had no winter this year. Sure, we’ve had 3 – 4 dustings but none for the accumulations they’ve predicted have occurred. I guess I can’t complain.



Lightman, I can empathize with you. I was just saying to a friend the other day that during the winters I spent in Rochester (NY) it was not unusual to have a little light snow almost every day. Nobody gave it a 2nd thought...well, almost nobody ;) It was impossible to keep a car clean in the winter. 2 year old cars were already rusting out. Very discouraging to see.



OTOH, these crappy conditions do force us to become more resourceful when it comes to cold-weather washing duties. I've recently begun rinsing cars outside to get the hideous stuff off and then put the car in the garage and perform an ONR bath. It's quite effective, really :hifive: I make it a point to do my rinsing on an area of the drive where the sun hits which helps minimize the size of the ice rink that's forming :grinno:

With the right tires driving in snow can be fun! No, you don't need 4wd or awd.

Grew up in the northeast and lived there for 43 years. I never found driving in snow a great deal of fun, especially in Greater Boston. I must admit that the roads were a little smoother after it snowed. The potholes were temporarily filled. Unfortunately, they were also about to get bigger.:eek:



We got lucky again yesterday. No snow or ice. Just a lttle rain.
 
I'll bet nobody brags about being an autopian in winter..... just 2 days driving will have your swirl free shiny deep paint looking the same than your neighbors washwice per year mobile pigstay..... ;) How could you brag if the vehicles look the same? :P ;)

I don't brag even in the summer; if someone doesn't notice on their own, they're not going to care when you tell them (IMO)!



Now that it's snowing here almost every day, I've taken to washing both cars twice a week. They get messed up quickly, but I can still see through my windows clearly, my headlights shine farther down the road, and my interior still stays clean. Driving is a lot more pleasant with perfectly clean windows. So no, both vehicles don't look the same.

I never brag or bring up being an autopian..the shine speaks for itself ;) 66 - I don't feel much sympathy, as I just walked in from 4F ;) It did finally stop snowing two days ago so the roads are dry despite the white stuff everywhere else...finally took the glowing and perfectly shiny TDI out of the garage that it's been patiently waiting in tonight to go downtown with...everyone's car looks like my truck, just covered in crap...the TDI was blinding!! :)



TomP - slipped the clutch easily in 1st and 2nd gear, above 2500rpm, which really surprised me...love that maffy maf maf ;)
