something to clean aluminum

The valve cover on my car is aluminum, i try to keep it clean, but it seems after i clean it i always get water spots and just general dirt that is very hard to get to on it. Is there any sort of aluminum specific cleaner you guys would recommend? My intake is also aluminum, but it is rough cast, is there anything i can do to clean this? I know i won't polish them with a cleaner, i just want them to be cleaned up, its driving me nuts.:eek:
 
I used Mothers mag/aluminum polish for about 4 hours (yes, a long time) and my engine bay now looks like this:

You can see the aluminum valve cover that now looks more like chrome. It started out with a dull rusty color and it was very rough. Now it's as smooth as my car. :xyxthumbs
