Some thoughts on Zaino Z-P Fusion...

Finally feel like I have enough experience to share some thoughts by way of a mini-review.

Here are my impressions:

1. Overall: quality product, right up there with the SSR and 1Z polishes which are some of my favorites.

2. Little pricey at $12.95 per 8 ounces. Maybe $15 for 16 ounces would be more reasonable but I don't know if there are expensive chemicals in the mix.

3. Leaves a beautiful surface behind, crisp and clean. Very smooth.

4. Very little dusting, easy to use, easy to wipe off. Convenient flip-top lid.

5. Seems to work best on medium or light cutting pad as you would expect.

Highly recommended as a polish, especially if you plan to use Zaino as your sealant.

Excellent review. The only thing would like to add is that the amount used to complete a job is very small. Less than 1 ounce for a SUV (Escalade) and about 0.5 oz max for my C5 from experience. This calculated to about 2.5 years minimum at 2 polishes a year for each vehicle from one bottle.

Would you concur SilverLexus?

Yeah I was surprised by that as well. I used quiet a bit less...I guess this helps make the 8oz. bottle seem more reasonable...seems to load up the pad easier. I guess this is due to the water-base nature of the polish...?

question for you guys do either of you use a pc when apply all or a specfic product of zaino?

Ehh, I'll toss in two cents. I like Fusion. It is a bit pricey for the amount you get, though. I use it sparingly, but not 1/4 as much as a comparable product sparingly.

I find it dries out pretty quickly by rotary. It's useable and not bad, but not overly enjoyable that way. It is much better by orbital. I really like it via Cyclo. It doesn't dry out so quickly that way, doesn't dust much, and leaves a great finish.

I'd say that if I wanted a DACP aggressiveness (well maybe a tad less) by orbital, I'd go with ZPC. By rotary, I'd go with DACP.

One thing I find weird is the smooth finish. It's like really smooth. Not squeaky, just really smooth. It's weird but cool.

from my limited experience I used small dots of Zpc on the polishing pad. If used sparingly a bottle will last a long time.

We certainly should take that into consideration when thinking about price per volume...

Isn't that the goal of a good polish?

Well, I wouldn't think so. I'd say the goal would be to remove defects. Clay will make the paint so smooth you can't feel the differences. It's not like it feels rough due to swirls. The smooth feel of ZPC is unlike any other polish I've used. It's pretty weird, but as I said, cool. :)

I guess I was thinking that a smoother surface would allow for better bonding assuming defects have been removed.

surprised to see your findings, i found that it dusted waay too much for my liking and was not like SSR 1 or 2 at all.. :nixweiss, just my two cents

In my panel tests, it dusted far less than SSR2.5 my favorite polish....maybe you did not work it in enough...? This polish lasts longer than others I have tried...I started on "4" ad went to "6" after a couple of minutes.

How good does Z-PC work? I use zaino on my car and it looks incredible but in certin lighting conditions you can see that its covered in light scratches and swirls. Will the Z-PC remove all or at least most of this?

I did not see any light scratches on the black trucks I did. I think it removed the swirls very well. It certainly does not create them.

Here is what Sal himself said about fusion on black cars:

"Dark color surfaces especialy black can sometimes leave you with a slightly hazy or milky surface after using Z-PC. Z-PC Fusion is water-based and does not have any fillers or oils in it. As soon as you apply your ZFX enabled Z2 or Z5 this milky look will go away leaving a perfect crisp clear shiny BLACK black scratch free finish."

This is the same results I got on my black street rod, it took out the marring on my running board but left a surface the had a slight haze to it. I hit it with PB1.0 I quick pass then a IPA wipe and the surface was perfect. I don't think on lighter colors you would be able to see the hazing.

Here is the thread....

I found that it dusted a bit too much for me as well. Now this was my first time using it and I only used a "dot" on the pad per each panel. It also loaded the pad (I used 3 green SM Arnold light polishing pads for a C4 vette) very quickly.

I wonder if it would dust/load less with a more dense pad?

I think it's a great product, but it does have a learning curve. I like it and will continue to use it on cars that recieve zaino. I will attempt to improve my process with it through experimentation.

Aurora, what brand/cut of pad were using with the cyclo?

So I guess as long as you go to Zaino you are fine. :)

I found it really did not dust much compared to SSR and Optimum...maybe I'm doing something different.
