Some sort of protectant?

You've heard a lot about sealants that requires a high heat for it to bond and such right?

Check this out...

The guy is using a blowtorch... then bakes the car. Strange, but this company has been in business for quite a while and is a frequent advertiser in Car and Driver/Road and Track Taiwan edition.

Then... I've been searching sites in Japan and Hong Kong for some "non-US" products to try and I was searching for this product called Ion Coat that was tested by some japanese guy against other sealants that he bought from the US and Japan (Japanese site), he wanted to test the claims of non-adherance of the sealant that he bought in the US (it has AS SEEN ON TV sticker on it and it's not Durashine), the "commercial" showed that even spray paint won't adhere to it and all, so he tested it on CDs (like Autopians hehe)

He took 2 CDs and applied each half with a certain product. He lets the products dry overnight (24hrs) and then he sprayed some laquer on the CDs, again, it was allowed to dry for a couple of hours.

To his surprise, the sealant that claims to repel paint didn't. It stuck like glue unless it's scraped forcibly with a blunt scraper. There was another japanese sealant that failed as well. Then on the 3rd surface, the paint came off but had to be scraped by his nails, this was the sealant that I'm currently using, Fusso Coat by Soft99. Then the Ion Coat section actually peeled the paint with little to no effort (no scraping)...

Now I wanna find that Ion Coat thing...

Where am I going with this? No where hehe... I'm just very satisfied with the Fusso Coat product that I've been using the past 2.5 months. I have to say that it is the only product I've used locally that was able to withstand the humidity, heat, and massive dust that my car encounters daily. It really kept my paint from oxidizing longer than my usual Meg #26.

Some recent pics (2 days after using Meg #66 + Fusso)

Unfortunately, most Japanese products don't come with English instructions... So shopping for it is quite difficult.

Oh, they also have this new paint protection product. I have no clue what it is or how it works, but the box states something like "One Drop", "Magical". Check out how small the bottle is, about an inch and a half tall.

=============================

I know that the translation is rough, but sounds really cool... 9 droplets for one car... Great water repellancy and durability... Oh, this is a review site, not a reseller.

Just wanted to show you guys some "foreign stuff"

I find this fascinating! Thanks for the translation! I would love to try this stuff, just for the fun of it! :xyxthumbs

Thanks David, you know if the Japanese invented detailing clay, you never know - maybe this stuff really is the next big thing....

They have all sorts of weird stuff in Japan...

Well, based on a local shop that carries Soft99 (Japanese equivalent of Meguiar's/TW in scale), they have neat stuff ranging from shampoo to defroster repair kits.

Also, most Japanese waxes have color labels on them, typically segmented into: Dark & Metallic, White, and Pearl finishes. I've used my "Dark & Metallic" polymer on a white car and didn't see any discoloration, but it does make a difference when I did use a "White" polymer on white.

They seem to blend the liquids differently but with the same base ingredients, like the Dark & Metallic seems to be deeper compared to the White/Pearl which makes colors reflect more than it absorbs, etc. etc.

I'll keep you guys up to date when I grab some new stuff here. I'm pretty sure that you can get some of those in the US, it might just be "hidden" so to speak. Even here in Manila, only one shop carries Japanese products, the rest carries the standard TW, AA, 3M, EO and others...

Yup, Soft99 is the maker of Fusso Coat and Gecki Coat... They also make the clay bar that I use now... It's such a great deal, 500 Pesos (around $10) for a 300gram bar (about 3x the size of a Mother's bar)... And it's available with or without a QD spray.

They also make great rain repelling glass treatments. I've used their Glaco glass treatment half and half with Rain X and Glaco is much clearer and lasts longer as well. Although RainX is cheaper.

But I still hate the fact that there are no English (or even Chinese) instructions hehe.

Fusso.... I swear I think I've heard of that before... think I read about it on some BMW Z8 specific forum or something.... supposedly really good stuff.. wonder if anybody imports it because I think they were talking about it being in California or something...

Yup, it was mentioned with in the thread that carguy was replying to in the BMW forums... But I believe that the Z8 (Z8tako I believe) was coated with the Kamikaze sealant. I saw this sealant on eBay and found it's description very close to what the Z8 owner is claiming.

If you go to www.yahoo.co.jp and search under "paint sealant" you'll find A LOT of Japanese paint sealants in the market...

This article is interesting as well... http://www.wework.co.jp/WeInfo69.htm

Actually Z8tako is using Crystal Guard, which he is importing and selling through customexotica. The black Lambo Murc is his I believe.

Eric

Thanks for the clear up... :)

Crystal Guard sounds so much like As Seen On TV ads!!!

But I wouldn't think twice to try it out hehe... :) I love trying stuff...

Still, I thought the same with the Fusso Coat that I'm using.. The label claims 3-6 month protection from automatic car washes etc etc... Yeah right, I though... Picked one up... and I love it so far (2 months)... :)

I hope they ship to Manila... :)
