using AOI as a cleaner prep before Zaino? I'd like to try this as
a least-abrasive method to cleaning the finish. What about curing time before applying Zaino, and should Z1 be used in this
case before Z2/Z5?

Klasse All In One can be removed from your car 5 seconds after apllying it. I would use two layers, three to be safe. All In One really does an excellent job. It'll clean the paint well but don't use it to remove swirls or anything.

I would strongly recco against using AIO before the zaino system. The two are not compatible. If you are genuinely concerned that your paint is not clean, then I would recco ABC'ing the car(do a search on ABC) and claying it. This will give your paint the ultimate cleaning. I know, I've done this. The results are fantastic. The car is smoother and cleaner than the day I bought it.

Based on what I've said above, curing time for AIO should not be a factor because you should not use it. Z1 was made to work with Z2/Z5. I would strongly recco following the procedures set out by the zaino people.

Take it easy.

The Zaino will not properly bond to the vehicle because the AIO leaves behind an acrylic\polymer protectant that is different from the polymer used in Zaino.

Waxman said it best. It's not that AIO is bad. AIO is my favorite polish/cleaner. It's good stuff. *BUT*, I wouldn't use it with Zaino. Now if you have your heart set on using AIO for it's cleaning properties, then go ahead. But keep a bottle of rubbing alcohol beside you. You'll need to spray it on your entire car and wipe it down. This will remove the acrylic layer that AIO leaves on the paint. Then, you can go ahead and start the zaino process. But do not skip Z1. That would be a huge mistake.

AIO is an acrylic polymer system. When you apply zaino you want your paint sqeakly clean, because zaino was designed to bond to your clear coat for optimum results. I suggest claying, using a cleaner like PPCL if necessary and then a very dilute DAWN Wash as prep.

This week's episode preview

Two of the cars that Ryan and I detailed on our detailing wondertrip to the great white north are featured on this week's My Classic Car with Dennis Gage. I should note that the footage was taken before we polished the Abrath and before I polished the Siata, so I don't know how nice the cars look on the TV.

Dennis needs to go back and check them out now! bet he'll be blown away! The owner is one great person to talk to and hopefully someday I get to meet him.

Oh man... someone post a youtube link once it's aired and up :D

Still one of the most epic detailing threads to date - not only great commentary and pics, but awesome rides and a crazy story as well.
