Some questions about claying.

Acura_RL, claying is a part of the prep process, so when I'm done claying I'm not expecting a finished sparkling car. Just a clean surface to work with. Wash+claying+swirl remover+polish+wax all together make the car really *pop*. Claying is also preventative maintenance as well since it removes all the small stuff a wash cannot.

Acura_RL- Yeah, don't feel like you wasted your time. You may very well have pulled of some minute (to the point of not being readily discernable) pieces of something that could have caused trouble down the road, like something ferrous that would've turned into a rust spot/speck.

Clay will remove overspray and all sorts of nasties from paint.

It makes it feel smoother and pulls out nasty rust marks (i had em on PLASTIC painted fender trims lol) from corroded rail dust.

Thanks for the replies. There were some areas where I'd see a tiny black spec, but no mater how many times i ran the clay over it, it never got out. Also there were some tiny black splatter stains next to the mud guards that wouldn't come out.

I guess I'm too much of a perfectionist. At any rate, at least I'm finding the detailing spray handy. I used that to clean the door jambs today. :)

Hey there Acura RL

So you are saying that the clay didn't take the tiny black specks out. I thought that claying removed everything...isn't that what it is used for?

If clay wouldn't remove it...I guess nothing will, right?

I suppose. Those black specs are called "spinoff" i believe, and they're caused from soaking your tires with armor all or whatever and driving your car afterwards. i think those stains are permanent.

Not many things that get on your paint are permanent. That stuff that flips off your car isn't going to stain your paint that way. It kinda sounds like maybe tar or something. I've had to scrape things off with plastic razor blades and the point of my knife before. It can come off though. Very very few things will stain forever.
