Some product recommendations please!

Well I've been out of the detailing loop for the most part in the last two years or so. I've been maintaining my car as I did two years ago but picking up some new products here and there. I finally plan to perform a full detail on my car hopefully in the next month but I have a couple of questions. I am going to use the Nanoskin Clay Sponge but I did not order the Glider clay lubricant as they recommend. Has anyone had success with something else?

Another question I have is in regards to polishes and compounds. I currently have a GG 6" 3rd gen with a 5" backing plate along with several Buff and Shine foam pads along with some Megs/B&S microfiber pads. The last polish and compound was M105/M205 and I still have a ton of this left. I was going to use these since I have so much but any new "must-have" polishes and compounds that you recommend?

Final question is in regards to wheel cleaners. I know Sonax was very popular and I believe is still very popular. Any other new great wheel cleaners that you recommend?

Thank you in advance!

I nanoskin as i dawn wash, all in one step. Been doing it on many cars since reading it here last year. Works perfect.

105/205 still a great combo.

Thanks Glen. I'm going to use the Nanoskin sponge while I'm washing and see how it goes. Also, it is good to know that M105/M205 are still a great combo! Any one have suggestions on wheel cleaners?

I purchased a nanoskin clay towel and nanoskin glider. I have yet to open my bottle of glider after using the towels all of last year. It is fine to be used with most lubrication. I usually use ONR (optimum no rinse) as my clay lube and more often than not, my wash soap. I use CarPro Reset for my car soap and its more than enough lubrication. If you don't use downward pressure on the sponge you don't need to be afraid of scratching the paint. And if you're following up with a good polish anyway, you can worry even less since you're correcting it right after. (FYI I have the fine grit towel, not the medium grit)

I purchased a new 32oz bottle of M105 and used it once. Didn't like it much but it will be there when I want to try different combos. M205 is great. I find different pads and compound/polish can produce different results for different cars. The test spot really goes a long way. This summer I'm going to try FG400 and SF4000.

For your GG6 polisher, how are you getting to the smaller panels where your 5 inch pads won't reach? Maybe a suggestion would be to get smaller pads and a small backing plate.

As for wheel cleaner, I have used Chemical Guy's Diablo Gel. Works fine. I like Sonax better but I prefer not to use either by making sure my wheels are never in the condition I need to bust out either one. I do that by sealing the wheels with a paint sealant or a paint coating. Goes a long way for maintenance.

Thank you for the advice.

I plan on using my M105/M205 for now. I don't see anything too new and "must-have" at the moment for me to change. I already have experience with both of these products already also.

I forgot to mention I have a 3" Backing plate and some foam pads to go with it for tight areas. It slipped my mind as I've had the 3" backing plate for about 5-6 years now.

I ended up going to Sonax Full Effect, the last wheel cleaner I had was P21S. lol

That's great news. I don't know what you currently have in your inventory but nothing 'must have'. Maybe things like the wheel woolie will help you clean your rims easier (no back splash and also great for your exhaust tips) or P21 metal polishing soap for your exhaust tips (best metal polish IMO to remove carbon buildup).

I actually purchased a set of wheel woolies also, they seem to be a nice addition to my wheel cleaning tools.

So I ended up purchasing some fg400 along with some buff and shine microfiber pads (both cutting and finishing pads). I already have a new but very old but good bottle of PO85rd which is apparently called SF4500 now that I never used.
