Some pad/pc questions....

hey all,

The products I have at the moment are: PC, Megs UC, Swril X, SFX 4" white, 4" yellow. (also have other bigger pads.)

I'm having some difficultly getting out deeper scratches in my cars and getting better clarity out of the paint. (The swirls for the most part are gone) The cars are a Ford Taurus Gl an SHO and Vw Beetle) Though I will admit that I did not crank the PC to 6. Does it really make that much of a difference from 5~5.5 to 6? Besides it sounding like a plane taking off....:grinno:

Even with a Yellow spot 4" SFX pad I'm not seeing the correction I desire. I was thinking about getting some 12oz. M105/M205 from ADS and some Orange LC 4" pads from Autogeek because in some of the threads I read people really liked the Orange 4" and M105 combo....... would it be better to go with the Orange instead of the Yellow even though the Yellow is not working with Megs UC? I don't want to waste money if the Orange pads are not neccessary.

Thoughts please...:help:

thanks

Glad to see things up and running.

Well before everything went down I had some info I was asking.

The yellow 4" sfx pad wasn't working on one of my cars. So I'm looking at these: I don't have any so I'm getting these:

Lake Country 4 Inch Foam Pads Low Profile- Made of high quality foam, these pads have hook & loop backing all the way to the edges. The benefit of

and these:

Foamed Wool 4 inch Buffing & Polishing Pad, wool polishing pad, foam wool pad, foam polishing pad, buffing pad, purple wool pad, lake country

and likely some 12oz. m105 & m205 from ADS.

I know that the orange pad is less aggressive than the yellow but more than the white.

Where does the PFW pad fall? Would it be better with UC or m105 for heavy swirls on an '04 STI ?

And would the PFW or orange be better on the apparently quite hard CC on my Taurus?

Thanks.

yellow & PFW, trade out 105 for 85 diamond cut. for lake country pads orange is too soft. you want to do some manly polishing. time to step up your DACP.

Thanks. I think that I'll stick to something that has less severe cut the 85 for the moment.:wavey

It's similar to the orange, sorta in-between that and the yellow. Cuts like yellow in most cases, finishes at least as well as orange, and doesn't heat up like either/any foam pad.

My '02 WRX had fairly soft clear and I never had to get all that aggressive with it. Also, the paint was *thin* so don't overdo this stuff ;) That said, I dunno how much of a diff there really is between UC and the current (v2.0) M105 :nixweiss Try the UC if you have both, or just use the M105 if that's the only one you have. Remember that it can do correction with milder pads too, and the most gentle way of getting the job done will be best.

Probably the PFW..

After switching to a rotary I found that I am not able to get the level of clarity out of my PC that I can out of my rotary.

This is most noticeable on black paint.

Not saying you can't do it on a PC, but "I" can't :)

I always do a final polish with the rotary now even if I used the PC on something.

I have the opposite experience. I get out defects with a rotory, put I can only get a hologram free finish on black if I followup with a PC.
