Adventures in Detailing
Here are some mini-reviews from the last couple weeks. I will work on some more detailed reviews later for some.
Lake Country Super Soft White Pad
I picked two up from Lake Country's Eric at Detail Fest. The pad is a composite red foam base with the white face (like the PAC constant pressure pads). The white is super soft and similar to the B&S White. I do not have a LC Gold to see if it similar but softer than the LC Red.
I applied BFWD (older bottle) and worked very nicely. You can kiss the surface with the pad and almost collapse the pad so easy to squeeze out some of the sealant. With a faster sweeping pattern the pad can roll somewhat if your backing plate is not 6 but not really an issue.
Conclusion: Like but now the white foam is stained. I immediately had saturated pad with OPC to help prevent but no joy. I do not think these are available for sale anywhere.
Poorboys DMT Microfiber Towels
I picked up a 6 pack at Detail Fest from Steve. These are very soft with a slightly plusher nap on one side that my other favorites (PakShack). I had used them to partially buff off some hazed BFWD and also do the inspection pass (going around with an inspection light cleaning out the crevices and any missed areas)
Conclusion: Like very much.
Fenix HP11 Head Lamp
I got this for Christmas and have used it several times. I have found this a great light for use when detailing in the garage especially on the sides when light is not great. It really illuminates areas that need work from wheel wells, wax in emblems. polish coverage/breakdown, and missed spots without having to hold a separate light at all times. It is surprisingly well balanced when on the head and you forget it is there.
Since it is a single point source, it does a decent job of spotting swirls so you can monitor work but always had the Brinkman handy as well to check.
It has four brightness settings (277 lumens max) so usually had it on full blast. It some other modes (like strobe) too. In my initial uses, I am not getting the battery life as claimed (very hard on batteries) so I got some rechargeable AA's and often replace after a few hrs. The light output drops as the battery voltage drops so near the end there are 3 effective brightness differences (upupper two brightness levers are the same.)
I now use it most of the time when doing any kind of polishing or waxes.
Conclusion: Like very much
Kranzle K1120T Pressure Washer
What a nice machine. I have used it several times already and can definitely use a lot less water when washing. It can quickly remove dirt from paint. The primary lance pattern is a fan type and looks like it is safe on paint at least within 2 feet. The only problem for me is the roof but then I am going to avoid my Werner platform for a while.
It is very quiet (hated my gas unit) and rated at 1400 psi and 2 GPM. It is very heavy (60 lbs) so not something you just tote around like the Karcher K2 I had used a couple years ago. It has a built-in hose reel and the hose is heavy as well and has some non-slick jacket so not the easiest to drag around.
Lots of brass everywhere.
Conclusion: Love.
Black Wow's PreWow Brush
This is a trim brush intended to help clean trim prior to using Black Wow. It is very similar to a toothbrush design except the bristles are taller and feel a little stiffer (right balance). I consider it pricey at $7 before discounts but was in a splurge mode since I was looking for a trim brush with longer bristles.
Conclusion: Works but not a bargain (something to add to the cart to qualify for free shipping).
