So... Went to look at new BMW M3's

I've driven an m3 and loved it. But the gt was the best for me.

I'm sure you'll love the m3 lightning svt and i wish you the best of luck with it.

If i was in your situation i wouldn't want to waste the summer waiting either.

Go get that m3 now and have a happy summer wringing it out!

Not trying to start an unprovoked flame war with you.

You have a beautiful car:xyxthumbs

My contention was that an M3 will stand out far less in a crowd of anyone but auto enthusiasts, to most people it looks just like any other 3 series BMW.

I don't think the mustang is a cheaper looking car either, it is an amazing value for 26,000 and for less than 4,000 in parts can be brought up to over 400 hp.

I could have bought an M3 but i decided to go with a rebirth of an american legend, that gets me daily accolades from the general public and car enthusiasts alike, plus the rumble of the v8 at any rpm sounds better than the 6 in the m3.

To say that an M3 stands out more than the 2005 mustang GT is ridiculous.

But when it comes down to it we both have beautiful cars and enjoy keeping our black beauties in autopian condition.

There really is no point in comparing the two. It's an apples and oranges type deal. Sure, both cars are blistering fast, but that's all they have in similarity. The M3 is more luxurious and refined and I'm pretty sure it'll handle the twisties much better too. The mustang is an American icon and has an aura about it unlike any other car. Due to it's price, it is a lot more accessible to people and, due to it's price, it's just not going to be as "nice". But boy does it sound good!

;)

I think the M3 is an excellent choice. I've wanted one for several years now. I could afford an E36, but not the insurance payments :( Anyway, I used to work for a BMW dealership, and the rule was no test drives for any car with an 'M' designation. The only time test drives were allowed were on used M3's and M5's, etc., so you're very lucky they let you go for a drive in one!

Chuck,

Have you considered a Porsche 911. You should be able to get a good used 1999 or 2000 model 996 for less than $40K. Just another option.

Hey Steve, what are you trying to do to the poor guy? :xyxthumbs

The resale on M3's is actually pretty poor. Too bad you don't have someone in your area you know with a dealers license tha can buy at auction.....2002's are auctioning for around 30K. My friend just traded in his MINT 2002 M3, loaded, 27K miles, for 32,500.

Your best bet is a private owner sale. The problem is that prices on average seem really high for resales, but if you monitor the market, these cars never sell....you see the same cars advertised month after month. The reason is that most of these people are selling the car because they can't afford it, and their payoff is more than the car is worth so they are trying to sell it to "break even." If you find a motivated seller, you should be able to get a 2003 for about 40K with under 20K miles. Do the math on the lease residuals.....to estimate value....numbers don't lie...

check out roadfly classifieds......

also....have you considered a new S4?

Well with that bit of disturbing news, I have to anno9unce that I bought the car a week ago. After a bit of self doubt, I checked with a few dealers on what they'd buy the car outright from me for and the average seems to be around $40k, retail in this area is still in the $42-45k range at dealers for these cars.

Anyway here are some pics:

My wife was mad when I bought the car, but once she saw it and drove it she loves it and says she'll be mad if I get rid of it. Going back to a post about the Mustang vs the M3, there was substance to that arguement that I can see now.

On the plus side this car is very sexy! The materials are top notch and the build quality seems very good. When driven the way it was meant to this car is a rush, the engine screaming towards the 8000 redline and the handling and brakes are top notch. This is a race car in disguise

once you go bmw you don't go back. You have yourself an absolute machine. Good Luck!

Not necessarily true. Im waiting for the official announcement from Ford about the new SVT Shelby Cobra, once its official Im putting a deposit on one (How can you beat 450hp+ and 14" brakes for under $40k?). So Ill most likely keep this car for about 1-1.5 years. But I do plan to enjoy it in that ime period!

Thanks for the kind words, Ill post some more pics after a few coats of Sovereign!
