for starters, here's a pic of my car...

pretty much all aesthetic mods (JDM Integra Type-R front end, Rota Circuit 8 rims, tint, suspension, etc) I'm sure I'll get flamed for this but the only security I have on my car is starter kill and Lojack. I used to live in a gated community down in LA (did ever since I got the car back in high school) but have recently moved to the Bay Area to work, sp up until now, security wasn't a real concern to me.

I got home from work last night at about 11pm and woke up to leave for work around 8am only to find that my car was gone. Talked with some neighbors, the lady across the street said she didn't notice anything out of the ordinary - she went to bed around 1am and didn't hear anything, and when she went outside at 6am my car was gone.

I called the Alameda Police Department around 8am and an officer came to file a report. I hitched a ride with my cousin to get to work, and by 11:18am, dispatch from Oakland PD called to notify me that my car had been located using Lojack.

I arrive at the location and find that my car is pretty much unharmed... they took my Valentine 1 radar detector, my aftermarket shiftknob, my OEM foglight switch, and my main relay under the steering wheel. The steering column had of course been busted open, and the ignition was hanging by the wires. Thankfully the key tumbler was undamaged.

The odd thing is that the car was left unlocked on the street, and it had one of those Autolocks on the clutch pedal (pretty much "The Club" for pedals) I suppose the thieves left the car on the street to see if it had Lojack and if the cops would be able to find it (which they did)

If I didn't have Lojack, I bet my car would be in pieces right about now. My buddy sawed off the Autolock with a Dremel but my car doesn't start since the main relay is gone (no spark/fuel) and I guess I gotta talk to insurance again tomorrow to figure things out. I don't know if the damage is over $500 (which is my deductible) but even if it's near $1k I don't think I'll want to go through the hassle of going through insurance.

Anyhow, I'm not sure if this post belongs here or in the Hot Tub... I figured since it had to do with Lojack that I'd post it here for any of you that are curious about the system. I definitely lucked out on this one... I've read one too many horror stories over on Honda-Tech about cars getting stolen and recovered with nothing but the shell.

here's the aftermath:

don't mind poor Dipsy (the green Teletubby mounted on the shifter) - the thieves stole my shiftknob and used the doll as a replacement

Love your car man and sorry to hear about the unfortunate event.

Good luck with getting it all back together...it coulda been a lot worse.

And all along we've been told that the Purple one was gay, when in fact it's the green one.:D

Glad to see you got your car back. Hope everything turns out okay.

Man some people just suck. Nice ride, glad you got it back. Hopefully it won't cost you much to get it back on the road but talk about inconvience.

I don't believe for a second your story about the shift knob. I have no doubt you've had Dipsy there all along.

I've had Dipsy since... 99 or so and he(she/it?) has always sat comfortably in the cupholder ;)

just a quick update... got the car started now, the thieves pulled the ECU fuse. Now time to JB Weld the ignition mechanism back to the steering column!

damn, sorry to hear your car got stolen, glad that you got it back. :)

i think there was a recent post about anti-theft devices that you might want to look at. it had some good ideas, like a hidden switch that disabled your fuel pump unless flipped on or activated.

yea, I need to start looking into more security... question is if I really want to keep the car or what... I've had the car since my senior year of high school so I don't really want to give it up, but having to deal with the constant fear of having it stolen again really sucks. Not sure if going all out on security (new alarm, the Club, Autolock, fuel cutoff switch, etc) is worth it to me right now. I don't have a garage to park in anymore.
