So many different Pads, which to get?

I get them pretty close to centered with one try. I use a 6" BP though.:D

That's what I use.. 1 of the yellow/flexible ones from LC and another, more rigid one from Meguiar's... I usually place the pad down on the table, and just put the backing plate, which is already attached to my makita, on top of it...

Yeah, LC 6.5" pads is all I have - and yeah, I use them on my rotary and no I don't like them. Why? they all wobble like a tire with a flat spot (you Nascar boys know whut I mean) the faster the RPM's - the more they wobble and secondly, after using 8" wool pads on a boat a few weeks back, I'll never be happy with those 6.5" pads again. Hey, just my opinion - your millage may vary.

Your wobbling comes from too much or too little product, user error, and/or pads horribly off center.

The wool pads are MUCH easier to use than the foam ones, especially 8" wool vs. 6.5" foam, but they do cut faster and aren't very safe, especially for beginners. Don't get 7.5" or 8" foam pads just because their wool counterparts felt better to use... the 7.5" or 8" LC pads behave in a similar manner to the 6.5" ones with the improper use mentioned above.

I'm not trying to argue with you here, rather maybe help you realize that the 6.5" pads are pretty easy to use with proper technique and lots of practice, and they really work great for some tighter areas or smaller panels, going between trim where 8" pad is too big, etc...

I have a PC and don't know which pads to get. There are so many different kinds and sizes. Can someone clarify which I should order?

- CCS Smart Pads 6.5" or 7.5" or 8.5" curved or Dual Action

- The Edge 2000 6" or 8" dual action durafoam

- The Edge 2000 Wave

- Dual Action or regular

What are the differences and what size should I be using with my PC7336SP? What brands are good and what type?

Sorry for the many questions, but it's not really clear for the beginner :) I will be using them for light to medium scratches and finishing.

Thanks.

Send me your email address & I will send you an Excel file with many of the pads listed, who makes them, most to least aggressive, etc.

Neither the E2K waffle 6" or the CCS pads 6.5" show any problems with a dry buff issue using polishes that don't have a long work time. The CCS pads are even better at this as the pockets in the pad are partially(mostly) closed cell foam that keep the polish wet in the pockets. Polishes really don't get much drier than Powergloss of Intensive Polish and they work just fine with the CCS pads.

I think of it this way:

If you buffed a vehicle with a bare foam pad, would it produce swirls? Probably yes. If you buffed a vehicle with a pad that was filled with dried up polish/glaze, would it produce swirls? Most likely yes. Try spurring a waffle, tufted and/or CCS style pad after alot polishing and see if all the product gets brushed/cleaned off. It doesn't because your brush doesn't get into all the every dimple or finger. Test it by spurring it and then set it aside for a day to dry. The next day go back and spur it again and see if more dried polish comes off the pad, therefore meaning that it wasn't removed in the 1st place. This can be eliminated if you use a pad washer system or switch pads out constantly. You won't get this potential problem with flat pads because all the surface is exposed to the brush and gets cleaned when spurred. With non-flat pads(mostly waffle), this dry buffing is probably less likely to cause problems on flat surfaces, but on body lines, the raised edge of the panel touches the indentions (filled with dried product) of the pad. I can't comment on 6 inch pads (I've have'nt used them) or Powergloss/Intensive polish to see if it makes a difference. If it does then great. I can only state what's happened to me on a few isolated events with the products I've used. I'm trying to not be negative and turn people off on non-flat pads, but I do tend to be over analitical with my style of buffing. I usually finish with a rotary which could make a difference in how critical I am. Does anyone else feel this way about this possible problem?

David, what you said makes sense to me. I have a big order pending and you just convinced me to get the Edge flat pads, along with some wool. I'm trying to get as good as I can with the rotary, makes sense to use it - much easier on this old boy's wrists than the PC.
