Is the Meg's 105/205 combo replacing the Menz SIP/106 combo? I've been off the forum for about a year and a half, and when I frequented it then, SIP had just been out for about a year or so. SIP/106 was the touted as one of the best combo's to use since they were both designed to work on harder clears and finished really well. I used SIP/106 and got good results, not great, but good. Now all I see is 105/205. Is this substantially better than SIP/106? Or is it just the new flavor of the month?
 
105 will be more aggressive and correct better than SIP which IMO was over hyped. As to which finishing polish you use that's a matter of personal preference- FP2, 106, 3m, Megs #9 etc.

They are the only polishes I have used for the last 18 months.

but when they both achieve outstanding results... 105/205 is a no brainer.
 
I personally like the M105/106fa combo. :chuckle:



I've used both M205 and 106fa and I find 106fa to finish down a lot better and easier. I also am willing to pay more for something that works and 106fa works for me.
 
105 took me a while to get used to, but now I hardly ever use anything else. 205 has been a favorite from the first time I used it.

We pay a bit of a premium for it here though being a small island group a looonnnggg way away but it tops everything else I've tried to date.
 
I like 105,but I try SIP first on most paint issues first. After trying 205 and Menzerna 203, I'm not impressed with either. I want to try either 106 or 85rd when my FFII runs out.
 
105 is the best compound hands down. It corrects all defects and leaves the best finish. SIP I feel is by far the best medium weight polish. Many times you don't need to go as deep as 105. SIP and all Menz polishes finish great. Has to do with finely milled abbrasives. But they take longer work. I think when it comes to finshing polishes it is just up to you. 205 works well with 105 but if you are using a rotary 205 sometimes can't clean up enough after 105. So a middle polish like SIP or IP is needed.



If I use a DA then 105 and 205 is my go too. (but really slow)many passes.)



If I use a rotary then I go with 105, SIP, 85rd or 106ff. Not near as many passes for the inital correction.

Or with the Griot's orange pad, if your polisher can keep it rotating under some pressure (like the Flex can). Might not even *need* a finer step, depending on the paint. I bet the tangerine Hydrotech would be similar.
