One pass this Menzerna FF II. Got most of the swirls out just some scraches left.

Right door done left door not. Bad finger nail marks I have yet to try and work on those.

I have not touched that part yet. The whole rear bumper looks really bad just like that bottom corrner part. Think Im going to have to use the IP for that. Anyone know why its so much worse? Bad repaint.

New polish to me and I'm still getting use to the PC. Does it look like I have the polish broke down enough? For the amount of polish I started with an "X" on the pad. Then with other panels just one line across the whole pad.

I'm calling it a night. I have until Saturday night to finish it. Thanks for the help guys. (try not to bash the newbie to much)

it looks like a pretty big improvement so far. do a few more passes with a slow arm movement in different overlapping directions (side to side / up and down / horizontal and don't tackle too big of an area) with very firm pressure, and then check your progress. make sure not to dry buff, a good way to check is while you're buffing lightly with one hand... swipe with your finger, look and feel for any product left on the finish behind you... good luck! :)

here's some good info if you haven't read it yet! http://guidetodetailing.com/articles.php?articleId=47

No bashing here ... I think you are on the right track.

The first picture shows you removed the swirls effectively and only have deeper scratches remaining. I would ask the owner how far he wants you to go.

The fender difference might be because it is a fiberglass section compared to steel panels?

For the scratches near the door handle I personally would use 4" pads, either by hand or machine.

One comment on the polish break down shot, you are working a much larger area than I would for heavy polishing. I usually try to do a hood in 4 or 6 sections depending on the size of the hood (Corvette vs. Mini :chuckle: )

Your working to big of an area.

The hood shot you have, do half of what you have shown there.

As for making it perfect, thats up to you, i know with my OCD problem i couldnt leave anything on the finish, it would drive me nuts.

In your last shot it looks like you are moving the polisher a little fast. I would only go about 1/2 inch per second. This will help break down the polish better and produce a little better results.

As for perfection, that is up to you. When I get going on a car I strive to produce the best finish I can. I can't stand just giving it one pass and calling it good, Sometimes I have to go through 3-4 polishing steps to get the paint to finish down perfect, but it's worth it once you find that winning combo.

Thanks a lot guys. That helps. I'm going to try and work a smaller spot and see what happens. I will keep this thread updated if I have any more questions.
