hey guys i just bought my first car the other day its an 04 crown vic sport in torreander red. i dont have any experience in car detailing really and the only time i ever really bothered with my cars appearneces before this one was when i used to hose down my old 89 caddy when it got too dirty. it seems like you guys all know alot about this and i was wondering what a newbie like me can buy from advanced auto to keep my car looking the way it did when i picked it up today. what exactly should i use to keep it looking like this inside and out ?

i should have said what my car was in that post but the car is a deep torreander red. its a metallic clearcoat paint i think from the looks of it. the wheels are those 17in alloy 5 spoke ones. the interior is black leather all around.

What you or anyone should use is not an easy question to answer.
You can get decent results with many over the counter products, but if you hang around here long enough, you will probably get caught up in more of the specialty products that are available.
You might want to start with Meguiar's NXT shampoo and Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax for the paint. The shampoo is good and the wax isn't bad.
When/if you decide to go further then the shampoo will still be fine and you might even end up using the NXT as your last step product.
Mother's also makes good products that would be available at Advance.
For the interior, vacuum it regularly and wipe things down with a damp cloth.
Your car won't deteriorate right away and you will have time to do some reading before you decide to start throwing money at detailing products.

Very good suggestion. You could also do meguiars deep crystal 3 step system if you wanted. Its a good way to get your feet wet. Another thing you should try not to do is running your car through the car wash.

Hope that Helps

any meguiars car soap should be alright.

a couple microfiber towels / absorber-california water blade

terry towels

sea sponge / wool washmitt

armor all for tires and plastic/rubber

invisible glass

clay

and 3 step sytem

wax/polish applicators

i guess to start off these are pretty basic. as u go on reading u will notice the more specific job doing products and also the procedure we do it in... dont use old t-shirts, bath towels, ect.... dont use a pressure washer, NO DRIVE THRU WASHES, keep it all simple... and as u read u will soon catch the bug.

read some of the tutorials so u can get a general idea on how to use em... either way u do it, it'll be better than those local car washes that get raves of people...
