Sneak Peek: 86 Vette Black......Beat badly!

Hi guys!

This is an 86 Vette that a used dealer is having me do.

This was just buffed out recently and did not last. I guess the glaze the bodyshop used did not work that long. It was painted not to long ago and has severe OP and need to be wetsanded. I have done hundreds of jobs like this, but it is on my top 50 list of bad cars. The car has tons of blemishes, gelcoat bubbling, pealing, and the paint they used was cheap no name brand that is going to take a miricle to make shine. The swirls that the body shop made were bad, but half of it is going to get wetsanded anyway. This car also had this wierd thick mud all at the bottoms and looked like it came from a farm.

This is ony a sneak peak and will have the afters when I am done. My new Hitachi just croaked and I am stuck on a hold till I can fix it. The rpm is going crazy and will not stay at a certain rpm.

That should be a fun ride!

All the black vette's that came out from this site has been WET and So beautiful!

So I expect the same!:bat

Process so far.

Wash with Pink Stuf degreaser and Z7 mix.

Wetsand with unigrit 1500 and then unigrit 2500

Settled on Menzerna power gloss with a yellow Edge pad.

Finsh the process tomorrow when car is done.

Tried the Presta UCC on yellow Edge wool pad and came out glossy, but was fading in front of my own eyes. I knew this was a cheap brand paint and was going hel? to be work. I also know who painted it and I have done lots of cars after he did work on them. It was a wholesale dealer paint job..enough said:help:

I liked the PG alot and did some great work with wool. It does dust a bit but clean up was easy and hosed off very easy. Did leave some minor trail marks under certain lights, but I am going to hit it with SIP/orange pad tomorrow.

Here is after wetsanding and PG with wool

Honestly, I'd

from that as fast as I could!

That was hillarious Scott! I love that guy running.

I wanted to, but this is a good paying dealer and I get a lot of work from him when I am slow or something falls through. I have done a lot of resto work and sometimes it is fun:D

I will tell you that this is somewhat easier than some of the new Vettes that I do. Too me anyway.

Funny part is that these guys have been told by a bunch of people that I am excellent, so they put me to the test thinking I will not be able to do it seeing that it was just detailed:grinno:

I hope my buffer holds out and plays well tomorrow in the heat as she is overworking hard.

I'm looking forward to seeing a full set of afters on this one!

It looks amazing so far. :2thumbs:

Your prep work is second to none!

I've found it necessary to keep a few compounds on hand, and have yet to find 1 that addresses all paint conditions.

Be sure to take a picture that captures the owners reaction :) I think you'll be detailing many, many more cars on his lot this year.:spot

How do you plan to finish up (polish & LSP)? I would recommend a coat of ZAIO on the paint before you top it.

Looks so much better already. Your patience is admirable. A little OT, but my Hitachi has done the same thing. I'll be working for awhile, and then all of the sudden the rpm jumps up. Anyone else experienced this?

Rydawg,

Amazing work, and about your hitachi, Im having the same problem! Just flys around from a low to super high rpm. I just got a new metabo, so no rush, but any idea on how to fix this?
