Smokey Finish

Just One More Coat
I've got a question, I did my black BMW last weekend. I used ardex swirl remover, PB P-w-C then topped with WG sealant and finsihed with carnuba paste wax. The car looked great but the next day I could see a cluody smokey look on the hood. I used the CA duster and it comes right off. So now I'm wondering if the sealant should have 24 hours to cure before topping it.

Anyone ever have this happen?

I would always wait for a sealant to cure for 24 hours before topping it. At least wait 12 hours. The sealant is still going ot need a little time for the polymers to cure. That's just the way polymers work. If you see "polymer" in the product description then give it time to cure before topping. That's my rule of thumb.

That's what maybe making the finish smokey looking. I was thinking that the sealant was curing or out gasing for lack of better trems.

could it have been actually the carnuaba paste wax, maybe the curing process of the WG "repelled" the adhesion (for lack of better terminology) of the carnuaba wax. Maybe you actually wiped off the carnuaba paste wax as it could have been what the smokeyness was :dunno

I did a black truck two weeks ago and did not paste wax after the sealant. I've seen the truck since then and no smokey finish I really think that its the curing of the sealnt that is causing it

I am just wondering if in wiping off the "smokeyness" you werent actually removing some of the paste wax that had a adverse reaction to the curing process of the wg. Just like when paint cures, the carrier solvents, and whatever else is in there, need to be able to evaporate and if you put a layer of something over it you may inhibit that ability. So in turn, instead of the paste wax drying, it absorbed whatever solvent evaporated out of the wg, hence not properly drying itself......... My 2 c's (though probably wrong, but what the hell :dunno)

I've had the same problem on my black bimmer with WG and a topper. Was it on the hood ONLY?

Mine was on the hood only to sounds like you did the same process that I did. I'm going to stop using the sealant after polish and go straight to wax.

Best finish that I have ever got on the car is with 3M SWR for dark color cars. Then polish and followup with straight wax.
