Small, VERY quiet rotary?

Does anyone make a small and VERY quiet rotary buffer? (why are electric motors so noisy!). Ideall it'd be able to be run from DC power, such as a car battery.

The reason I want something like this is that a) I need something very quiet so I don't upset my neighbours, and b) I'm figuring that if it's going to be quiet, it will probably have to be small, and c) it's a pain to run a power lead to my garage.

Also, being small, it would conceivably allow very fine control, in tricky spots etc.

I don't mind the fact that it would take me longer with such a device - this is just for occasional use.

Thanks,

Greg.

haven't had any experience with one, but a rotary that many like on here that is small & lightweight would be the metabo...

Noise isn’t high on a power tool designer’s priority list. So they just don’t bother to make them quiet.

Ultra quiet electric motor technologies exist, but not many customers care enough (read that: would be willing to spend substantial extra money) for any manufacturer to apply the appropriate engineering to power tools.

Ok, thanks for the info. Hopefully someone will make one anyway, sorta like the scientific calculator story.

Metabo + ear plugs is what you are looking for. Quiet and power tools usually doesn't go in the same sentence. Like Pam Anderson and Virgin!
