Small space heater + Leatherique = ????

I’m planning on treating my leather seats with leatherique. I was thinking of leaving the cleaner on overnight with a small space heater in the car. I would plan to keep the sunroof cracked so it wouldn’t get too hot in there. I’d rather have the car sit overnight and get to work on it in the morning than have it sit in the sun all day and start work on it in the afternoon.



What are the chances that this will fail horribly and I will set my car on fire?



Am I crazy?
 
I definitely wouldn't leave a heater on in a garage overnight. It's just not safe.



Do it on a weekend - apply the oil in the morning, let it sit for a few hours through the afternoon, and it will do the job just fine.
 
I agree. Apply it early in the morning or even the night before. Let it sit in the sun the next day and it will do just as good if not better.



Ive put a heater in a car for a few hours in the winter after I shampooed the carpet. Ive also put them in there early in the mornings to melt the snow off the windows while I get ready. Its nice to have a nice warm car without wasting gas. :)

I forgot what it's like to have to warm up a car in the morning! FL sure has spoiled me :woot2:

Yeah, well.....being an ex-South Florida and current Mobile, AL spoiled guy, I now "warm up" the car by remote before I get in it.....except it's to turn on the A/C. :)
 
Looking at the seats, I think you need a good cleaning first. Also, the coating has been worn off on the bolster. The center console is also pretty well damaged. At least, that is what I am seeing from the pic. No amount of cleaning or Leatheriquieing will take care of it in this case.
 
Leatherique discourages the use of plastic bags on the seats to generate heat. They say the leather needs to breathe and to just leave the product on as long as you can (checking periodically to see if you need to apply more). I've been using Leatherique for about a year, and I still keep going back to their web site. Somewhere TH001 posted a pretty good tutorial on using the stuff. Leathique also sells leather dye kits if you find that you need to restore the center arm rest (bolster). I think they (and some other providers) can match colors really well.



My old benz has blue leather seats and the driver's side has a worn down spot - the previous owner told me that he would take blue shoe polish to it! :faint: It took me a while to get it all off.

If you would like to try Leatherique cleaning and conditioning products, then that is fine. I know this may be unpopular, but I would not use their coatings. There are better alternatives.
