Slight holograms on black, wrong process?

This is a brand new chevy silverado.



It came heavily swirlled from the dealer. The customer requested it look like new. I corrected the swirls but left holograms behind.



Maybe it was something wrong with my process, more specifically pad/buffer/product choice.



Process:

Gold clash wash

Clay/ Tar removal

Second Wash

OP W/ Green edge pad (light cut) 1000rpm

RMG W/ White edege pad (soft polish) 1000rpm

Klasse SG



Should I have gone with the PC for the cut or maybe used a topper like NB or 845?



The holograms are at the top of the front fenders and by the top rail of the truck bed.

Hey Jordan. There's a parts store here that carries the DD Line in Pontotoc,MS. Hills Auto Parts. Occasionally i'll wash a friends vehicle and use DD Excalibur on them. Easy on, easy off. Sorry to be off topic.

Hmm, maybe the RMG (or Pink Moose) with the PC after the OP/rotary step? At least until your rotary skills are fine-tuned. Was the customer satisfied with your work?
 
Black if a tough color to finish down on, I think before applying the RMG I would possibly would have used FPII via PC and a good finishing pad and then re-evaluated. The hologramming that you left looks like it would clean up for sure

Ditto, but IME you might need a *light* polishing pad with the FPII.
 
I'd say my rotary skills are pretty good. The holorgams were really only noticable where the panel had an angle and slight concavity to it.



The customer is pretty picky but I haven't even had a chance to collect on my work. Because of the holograms I'm thinking of not charging him.



If I do go back to fix it, what is the best way to break down the SG to effectively correct the holograms?

BTW: The DD line is a different company.
 
Jordan@DD- I'll echo what ebpcivicsi said. Rather than use the RMG or something similar I'd just give it a light polishing via PC, that'll remove the holograms and probably pretty easily.



I kinda think that if you'd done that second step with something like FPII or the BF final polish (instead of the RMG) you might've avoided the holograms...you probably just needed a bit more cut after your corrective step with the OP (which is almost certainly what caused the holograms).



The polish you use will cut right through the SG but *sometimes* a fresh coat of SG can gum up your pad a bit. If you want to play it safe you can use rubbing alcohol to compromise the SG (just spray/wipe it on, let it dwell, use a soft MF to wipe off- it's just like cleaning anything else with a solvent, nothing to it really).



Even some of the best, most experienced rotary users around (e.g., Mike Phillips at Meguiar's) get holograms from time to time...no biggie, just do that final polishing.
 
I'll echo that, I finished out a moro blue pearl metalic a4 that was all holograms with ssr1 and pro polish.



I wished i had had FPII at the time would have saved me a step.
 
Still haven't had time to touch of this vehicle but I recieved my FPII-- I'm very impressed with it's results on black. Its great after OP on black.
