Single stage white questions

To OC it you need to remove ALL the oxidation, not just "as much as possible", otherwise it won't bond.

Also, keep in mind OC is designed for clear-coated paint not SS, so even a perfect SS finish may have unpredictable durability/finish issues.

Thanks.

In my research I read of the potential issues if all of the oxidation is not removed when using OC on SS finishes which is why I am currently just toying with the idea in regard to that section. I mentioned "as much as possible" in relation to the removable top since the texture (and satin-like finish) would be a challenge for other solutions like polishing. ....the rest of the truck is not an issue in this respect. My hope is that ABC will address most if not all of the oxidation on that surface. I already have a couple of spots I am testing OC and other products like G/Techniq C4 that I happened to have on hand. ....I know the latter is not necessarily intended for this purpose but as I was addressing the plastics, I decided to try a spot on the top. In the long run, I may just try Opti-Seal which I can apply quickly and easily (making more frequent applications less of a hassle). I'm currently using 303 just to help stave off any further deterioration until I figure something out.

My main issue is that I really don't have a lot of time to maintain my other vehicles these days let alone this one. To make matters worse, the 4Runner will be sitting in my driveway 24/7. My goal is to use something that will help slow (or even stop) the oxidation without frequent re-application. OC obviously came to mind which is why I began searching for feedback from anyone who has used it on SS paint. I know there are no guarantees even I do address all of the oxidation but if it works, it will be a huge help. ….and I really don’t want to hassle with a car cover considering where it is parked (next to a hedge) and the fact that I will be moving it a couple of times a week.

Any additional input would be welcome. Sorry for the hijack OP.

Kean- I myself would ABC *every* newly-acquired vehicle, and especially something like that (that's one really cool SUV BTW!).

Thanks. It's a long story but it was my father's truck that he had since it was new. Although he took good care of it while it was in use, it sat outside for the past 7 years or so. He passed it along to my brother a few months ago and he recently transferred it to me. Neither of us had the heart to sell it so I said I would take it and restore it. …..maybe even get some use out of it since we don’t have a truck. Luckily it fits in that spot that I have it parked so my wife and I can still get our cars out of the garage without having to move it. I really want to get the paint back in shape and get something on it so I can concentrate on slowly fixing the mechanical issues (which are relatively minor but take time).

Kean- Sounds like a similar situation to the old Volvo wagon I inherited. Really *TRASHED* oe single stage, but I was able to keep it looking great (for what it was), much to my surprise. SS is just really forgiving, and even if you do cut through it's just not the end of the world like it is with b/c. I didn't bother getting the awful spots repainted until I gave it to an in-law (figured she'd be better off with good, thick, new paint). Still miss that thing (I modded the mechanicals and made it really fun to drive ;) )...but she *needed* it and she's still enjoying it years later.

OK, end of threadjack :o
