Single Stage vs Clear Coat Newbie with PC

laefd

Process over products.
Have a 2004 Toyota Sequoia (White), 2003 Honda Odyssey and 1999 Subaru Forester (White) and will be doing some clay, clean, AIO, SG - have used the AIO/SG with great results previously but will use the PC now for the first time.

Subaru and Honda have some very light swirling (but very noticable) from hand washing/waxing over the course of their lives - Sequoia is virtually mar/swirl free.

Question is whether the single stage paint of the Toyota is to be treated differently than the clear coats on the Honda and Subaru. My initial thought is to approach both the single stage and clear coats with the same processes.

Advice, comments, suggestions? I have the Meg's Deep Crystal 3 step system which I've used by hand before - any comments in using the Deep Crystal stuff with PC? Will probably use either SSR2.5/1.0 or Menzera FPII (not really wanting to use any fillers) and am considering topping the AIO with UPP although the SG has worked great in the past - as always open to suggestions.

Thanks for any suggestions/advice - WHAT A GREAT BOARD!!!!

You 04 is sinlge stage paint that seems real odd to me for a new car. However you can do the same thing for single stage as for clear coat. I'm still stumped by single stage on an 04

I have looked at many a '04 Toyota Tundra before I made my purchase and never saw a single stage one. :dunno Are you sure it's a SS paint job?? Anyhow, on single stage, you may not want to use as agressive polish for fear of cutting too deep in the paint. I think you'll be safe on the Tundra as I doubt it's a SS. Just curious as to where this info came from??????

To point somethign ouy about single stage paints. If the car has oxadation on it you want to remive the top layer with either a SWR or polish. I cut my teeth many years back with single stage. I love working with SS cars they always turn out so nice.

However I really don't think that this car is SS.

WOW! Thanks for aetting me straight! The '04 was "assumed" to be SS based on something I heard from someone I know who lives over there across the street from them. I know, I know; enough of the "assuming". That's why I wanted to come straight to "the Pros at DC!

How about SSR 2.5/1.0 vs. Menzera FPII on white? AIO topped with UPP vs. AIO/SG?

What a great board!!! Thanks!

ONe way to check if it is SS get a rag and use some of that Klasse rub an area and if the color comes off on the rag then it is.

I have used SSR 2.5 and 1 for sometime now and I love the finish on white cars. I top that with Poorboys polish with carnuba but your Klasse would be just about the same. Then any decent sealant would be in order at that point.

claying after washing but prior to continuing with surface prep will definitely give you a better surface to work with. Good idea that if often overlooked.

Without seeing the surface, I'd say SSR2.5 with a PC @ 3.5 - 4 should resolve your swirl issues on a 2004. I'd start out with a polishing pad & assess the results before moving on to a more aggressive pad.

Start out conservative & become more aggressive with pad and/or product only if necessary.

FPII on a polishing pad @ 3.5 will leave the surface squeaky clean.

AIO + UPP will give great gloss & slickness while AIO + SG will also give you a great appearance but perhaps better durability.

Honestly, you can't go wrong with either combo.
