Simoniz Micro Fibre Wash Mitt

Is this thing any good? Up here in Canuck land the only real place I have found thus far to get wash mitts is Canadian Tire. To this point, I have been using a Simoniz real lambs wool wash mitt, and am not overly fond of it. It only lasts maybe 6 months, and sheds. Has anyone tried the micro fibre wash mitt? It feels inferior to the Lambswool one... but hey, it's microfibre and cheaper!

Of course, lambswool is probably better as it traps the dirt better.

So, thoughts?

(Use dry or wet?!)

That is the MF mitt I have been using for 9 months. I have 5 of them and it is the best mitt I have used. No marring at all. I don't have a problem with it releasing dirt and when I'm finished washing I throw it in the washing machine and it cleans up nice. No shedding at all.

I don't know about it being cheaper, it costs $13 at Canadian Tire around here. They went on sale in the summer and I picked up 3 of them.

Hmmmm, I haven't seen these MF mits at my local CT stores. I am also using the Simoniz wash mitt. It does shed quite a bit, and as said, only lasts 6 months. But so far that's the best I've found...

Bill.

Yeah, me too. Unfortunately the shedding really pisses me off, and I feel that it would scratch the finish when I use my MF to dry.

Bill,

Partsource also sells this MF mitt. Strange you can't find it in Toronto.

I'm suprised this is the first thread about this mitt. I would think more of the Canadians on Autopia would know about it.

Knowol,

It is super soft. It doesn't shed. It doesn't marr. It holds lots of soap and water. It glides over the paint. It lasts long, still using the first one I purchased in March.

Buy it and try it. The worst that can happen is you don't like it. Then use it for wheels or other dirty work.

The shedding you are getting now with that sheepskin mitt is a common problem with all sheepskin mitts that I have tried. 6 months is about all I would expect out of one of them.

LOL!!! It seems everyone calls it 'Crappy Tire'. How funny.

Steve, I'll give another look when I go back to CT. Maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention the last time I was there.

OT, but, do you guys think they'll carry the new NXT tech wax by meguiars?? I hope so, I'm very interested in trying it.

Bill.

Bill,

Some of the Canadian Tire stores might carry Megs NXT when it comes out. Some of the ones around here carry Megs Pro line of products, they might carry it. :nixweiss

Stevet - I find that the Simoniz micro fibre mitt works great.

And yes - I've found Meg's Pro line at Canadian Tire but not Meg's Final Inspection - have you seen that at CT? I've bought out the entire stock of Meguiar's Final Inspection from a body shop supply place on College Street here in Toronto (2 bottles) and looking for a source to replentish. Anyone know where FI might be available in Toronto area?

Thanks

Try UAP/NAPA parts. I always buy mine from there. The last couple of times I went they had some on the shelf. If they don't you can phone in an order and pick it up from them the next day.

Bill.

dpaulyn,

Do you have a Partsource store near you? They are owned by Canadian tire and carry Megs pro line. There are three stores here in Hamilton, Ontario. I buy Final Inspection, #40, #39 from them. They also carry #9, #26 in liquid, #7, and fine cut. I aslo buy Stoners Invisible glass there, it is the only place I have found this local.

Ontario isn't that far from me. We could work out a trade, I buy you guys some good US products and you give me all the Aero bars I can imagine. :o

HEAVEN!

Corey Bit Spank,

I was down in you area Tuesday. I purchased more QEW from Colton RV and some MF towels from Bed Bath and Beyond in Amherst.

Actually I first noticed the Simoniz MF wash mitt back waaaaay back earlier this year: http://www.autopia.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19243&highlight=simoniz I bought one eventually, but only got to use it once or twice because I kept hanging it up to dry in some corner where I forgot about it.

My initial impressions (IIRC) was that it worked fine, but it was stiffer than I prefer and it didn't quite glide as well as my sheepskin mitt.

True, I suppose it doesn't shed as much as a sheepskin mitt, but then again I haven't had that much problem with shedding for the last year or so, so I've been reluctant to switch.

Colton sells QEW? WHOAIE!!! On Niagara Falls Boulevard? Gosh that's not even 5 minutes from me. I'm going there NOW!

I'm so happy you guys I'm going to take over the world.

I have been using the sheepskin mitts from Costco in CanaDUH .. 5 pack for $15 ( 4 sheepskin and 1 Chenelle ) ... I bought them in March and am still using the first one. Washing frequency is about 3 times a week and no matting, freying or anything like that . No grooming required. I just rinse out and hang on the line to drip into the laundry tub.
