Silver paint...wax/clay?

For durability and a really shiny reflective look, I really like the Jeff's Werkstatt Prime and Acrylic Jett on my silver car.

I used to use Souveran and I liked the look but it didn't last very long. I found myself applying it every time I washed the car. The Werkstatt products would last months of daily commuting and weekly washes and still look great.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. As far as clay, I am looking at Clay Magic, because the Sonus clay is only available at their website and I dont want to pay shipping for just clay. How much better or worse is Clay Magic (ultra fine i assume) than Sonus (ulra fine). Can Clay Magic be had OTC? If so what stores? Thanks.

Also I hear that Collinite 845 is available OTC? Is this true?

First off, a sealant shows off a silver metallic paint much better than a wax which tends to mute the metal flakes. After a LOT of experimenting with LOTS of products on my

three Silver cars (Jag , Monte carlo, Corvette) I found this combo works best.

1. Polish with P21S Gloss Enhancing Polish-gives great gloss

2. Glaze with Menzerna Finishing Touch Glaze-gives great brilliance and clarity

3. Seal with Zaino Z2/ZFX...which gives durability and optical reflection.

The result is a glossy car with metal flakes that POP OUT AT YOU and looks like a

bar of silver! Oh, putting Z2 over glaze has NO effect on length of durability of the Zaino

and in fact looks MUCH better than Z2 alone. Try it, you wont be disappointed.

I did also try a S100 topping over this and found it did nothing it improve on what already

looks super duper on a silver car.

Really just wanted to keep it simple, no polishing and no glazing, but thanks anyway, I may look back to this when I become more experienced. For now I am sticking to a tried and true wax and clay.

That's fine but just remember that carnuba wax tends to mute metallic and pearlescent flakes, limiting the sparkle on sunny days. It is far better to use a pure sealant on such finishes (such as Zaino, Klasse etc. and restrict yourself to a top coat of a good quality carnuba wax only once you have applied several coats of sealant (or better still leave the wax on the shelf). The same goes for blended last step products - they too tend to mute metallic and pearlescent flakes.

...and what happens when someone prefers the muted glow of a classic carnauba???

I think you can not make judgments about *what should be avoided* or not. If this is only your personal opinion, that's absolutely fine, but don't make generalizations. Especially that you can choose high-end carnaubas (as they are all blends; an all-carnauba formula doesn't exist) which DO have sharp, bright reflective qualities.

The original poster did ask..."what will give my silver car POP"? So I gave him some metal flake POP advice and yes, my personal opinion...which is a sealant will always give superior metal flake POP over a wax/blended product. I agree on the "avoided" and

shall thus edit that.

Based on my experience, Collinite gives a great look to metallics(such as silver), as it slightly deepens the color and allows for decent wetness and reflection, something sealants really don't give. Sealants may make the car a bit brighter, but the classic carnauba glow still looks great on colors like silver. Collinite also makes metallics pop, maybe not as much as say, EX-P or Zaino, but Collinite has a TON more depth and body to it's shine than those two. Gives awesome optical range, seems like you could see a mile into the finish, again something you don't really get with a sealant, based on my experience.

I buy my Collinite at Car Quest.

While some carnauba's definately mute the flake, others do not. #16 shows off the flake just fine and makes a well prepped silver look almost like a pool of mercury.

My Z06 has UPP topped with #16. My C6 Coupe has UPP topped with #26. The Z06 has an immediately noticable amount more shimmer, wetness, and gloss than C6. My favorite sealant on silver is UPP and my favorite waxes on silver are #16, Liquid Souveran, #845, Max Wax, Sig Series II, in that order.

Collinite does not mute the flake on silver, as I have mentioned a million times already. Most other people will tell you the same thing.

Hehe. Sorry! :D

Just throwing this out there - is there any place that sells Sonus AND Zaino?

No. Zaino is from Zainostore.com or brick & mortar only, afaik.

For me on silver metallic I like AJ Prime followed up with a 50/50 mix of Carnauba Jett and OCW.

Just to let you know, that even though it sounds like I am a Collinite zealot there are plenty of other good products for silver out there. I just thought that you were limiting everything to OTC. People say JW looks good on silver, but the durability for me isn't as good as I would like.

Ya, CJ durability is only ok. AJ is very good.

Good recommendations! I just bought a silver car yesterday (2007 Yaris Liftback).

I ordered OPS this week, but I'm still undecided on the LSP. After searching on "silver" I narrowed my choices to Jeff's AJ, Natty's, OCW, AW, FK1000P, or 845.

Oh, yeah ... does Collinite mute the flake much? :)

Hm, does Collinite 845 in particular mute the flake? I am willing to try a sealant if this is the case...

I find that it doesn't mute at all

I like using 845 on metallic paints
