just ordered the zaino kit for my silver camaro http://community.webshots.com/album/71172328THYDyp (<<<Pics in case you want to see).

i got the clay z2 z5 z6 and the zfx....any thoughts on how it might come out.....also some a$$ gouged my left front fender and i really dont want to have to have the whole fender painted again....( and i'd like to get it done before the whole zaino process too but dont want to spend a fortune either)... it is like 10 inches long in a downward swoopp and i'm pretty sure someone dropped/scraped something across it because of the residue it left but it is similar to a key mark

......any thoughts on some of these mobile touch up paint companies? ive seen some of their work and it is pretty good but this is right in the top of the fender and it pretty much goes to the ABS layer

Hello cds, welcome to Autopia. :welcome

One thing you'll learn about here is that how well your car will turn out all depends on how good you can get it to look - before you apply any Zaino! This is the all-important "prep" stage that people talk about all the time. It really makes all the difference between a "decent" looking detail, and a "fantastic" looking one, because you can't count on getting miracles from Zaino alone. Zaino is a good product line, and it should improve the look of your car, but if your paint isn't in great shape already (aside from that unfortunate scratch) then you should evaluate its condition and try to do something to improve it.

If you haven't already, I highly encourage you to take the time to look at the articles and the Learn! link above, and to use the search engine to help you answer even more questions.

Sorry, I don't know much about the touchup question though....

Sorry to hear some A-hole did that!

Here's an article on repairs to scratch & chip damage:

Repairing scratches & Chips

one of the best products for repairs: Paintscratch

OK now you repaird the damage, it's time to prep the finish.

Wash the car with a high alklyne wash, clay the finish, wash again. Get out your PC and remove ALL swirls/cobwebs etc. Polish to a mirror shine with a fine polish. Wash/strip the finish of oils from the polish with the Z7. Dry and get ready for Zaino.

FOllow Sal Zaino's instructions from is website. Let me add this link as well:

Enjoy

Personally, I don't buy the idea that ZFX gets rid of the need for a polish. True, you shouldn't always need to polish your car before the sealant stage, but I think the first time (and probably once a year additionally), you should use Z-1 or another polish first.

the zfx really doesn't replace a polish it as an additive that goes in either z2 z3 or z5 it actually acts as a hardener and speeds up the cross linking process in the "polish" it allows you to add more coats of zaino faster by speeding up cure time allowing you to buff off the old coat sooner and the coats of zaino z1 z2 z and z5 are really not polishes as they contain no micro abrasive substances. they contain cross linking polymers that actually fill scratches and build up in additional coats to create additional depth to your painted surface almost like adding another layer of clear....

personally my car has no swirl marks (and thank god no spider webs) since it has never been touched by an in experienced person with a pc or a rough hand waxer and it really only has a few microfine scratches , paint chips from gettin friggin sandblasted when driving the remnants of a keying that i was able to polish out TG and the nasty scratch

....any good recommmends for a good polish that can be store bought currently i don't have a pc but might have access to one but i do have a 6" and 9" random orbit buffer

....i have to go to work now so i will read the paint scratch info when i get home....has anyone on here done a silver metallic with zaino? pics?

My F250 is silver and has zaino. I will look for some pics to post but in the meantime let me assure you. You will love that zaino look on silver

From Zaino's Product Description for ZFX:

ZFXâ„¢ can be used with any of our Show Car Polish products, including Z-2â„¢, Z-3â„¢ and Z-5â„¢. Plus, ZFXâ„¢ makes using Z-1â„¢ Polish Lok unnecessary on cars that have been clayed and thoroughly cleaned with Dawn dishwashing liquid.

Using ZFXâ„¢ in place of Z-1â„¢ Polish Lok will reduce drying time, increase gloss factor, extend durability level, and instantly cure to allow multiple immediate coats! No more waiting between coats!

So I don't get it...what's Z-1 anyway if it isn't a polish?
