I thought silicone in wax just sits on top so that I can just clean it before paint touch up.
According to Haynes Automotive Body Repair & Painting Manual, however, silicone can penetrate to the bare metal. Which wax products on the market has silicone that penetrates down to the bare metal?
“Also on the market are a variety of synthetic waxes, most of which are silicone based. They work well, but have a couple of drawbacks. They tend to dull if you put too much on (or apply second coats without thoroughly washing off the first coat), and they can make future repainting, touch up or spot painting a repaired area a real hassle, since the new paint will not stick to a surface which has any trace of silicone on it. And the silicone penetrates all the paint layers, even the primer, right down to bare metal!�
