Sick child

An update. Joshua is doing pretty well except for some fluid in the pleural space in the right lung. A drain tube took out 600 ml of fluid and then stopped draining. A CAT scan revealed more fluid so they are trying to clean out the tube. If that doesn't work he will get a new, larger tube.

They brought him up from sedation and he spent about 30 minutes trying to write a word on paper. He would start out, then drift into sleep. I finally went through the alphabet and came up with the first 3 letters, SAK. Turns out he wanted Saki. I could have shot him. Any how I take that to mean he is feeling a little better. Thanks for your outstanding support. We think we can see the light at the end of this awful tunnel.

I am very glad to hear that. I imagine that there is still a ways to go and will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers.

My wife has, amongst other, larger issues - an auto-immune disorder and needs to be on immuno-suppressants. She is currently fighting a MRSA infection on one of her feet.

Of course she is away from home, caring for her father in Florida (and she thinks that she is the only person in the world that can do it - wrong!) instead of at home in California caring for herself. She is a nurse practitioner - medically retired, and that is how they tend to think.

Best of luck to Joshua and his wife!

Thanks to everyone for your prayers and support. Joshua came off the ventilator and was extubated a little while ago. This was a giant step in his recovery although he still has a ways to go before being "well". I'm hauling diet Cokes and orange sherbet up to Boston Med tomorrow per his request. Again thanks for your help. My family will be praying for any of you with sick loved ones.

Awesome just tell your son to take it easy. You take it easy to there Sludge and tell your family were still praying for your son to get better.

Praying for your son and glad to see things are steadily improving. Keep the good news coming and thank you for keeping us all updated. Mike...
