Should I wash after Claying?

I can't believe people here will spend hundreds of dollars on countless products just to 'try' them out, yet won't spend 6 bucks every 6 months on a QD to clay their car. I'm not against using a car wash solution, it's just the reasoning I don't agree with.

Bill.

Bill, if you knew how much lube i went through claying, youd see why im going the car soap and distilled water route instead.

I wash the car as normal rinse off, then wash the car for a second time then clay the car using the shampoo on the car as a lube.

QD's are harder to come by over here in the UK,and I clay my car every time I Polish/Wax.

I sorta go back and forth between wash solution (often a stronger-than-normal mix in a spray bottle) and dedicated clay lube. Much as I hate to admit it, I believe that the clay lube DOES provide a bit more lubrication. I don't think this usually matters, and I still clay while washing, but if I had a black car I'd probably use the lube.

I do rewash the panel after claying, though as BillNorth said, you really shouldn't have to if you clay correctly. But it gives me peace of mind; I don't like the idea of leaving clay lube on there like a QD. When I use car wash soap it only takes a second to rewash before rinsing and I worry about the soap breaking down the clay and thus leaving clay residue on the panel.

Yeah, car wash solution DOES break down some clays. Griot's, for instance, practically dissolves in car wash soap. The Autopia Block, on the other hand, doesn't. Different types of clay call for different procedures.

I'm gonna doo this too...I use an average of 3/4 of a bottle of the Clay Magic lube each time I clay a car (and I've got my DD Yota pickup, the Cobra and the old lady's SAAB).

~One man’s opinion, observation~

Clay Magic and a lubricant solution (Water / Wooliteâ„¢ or Dreftâ„¢ 6:1) is what I use as opposed to a detergent (formulated with sodium, etc) that will denigrate the clay.

~Hope this helps~
