Shift knob polishing

I have a Hurst Aluminum T-Handle shifter in my Mustang and over the past few months it has got pretty dull. I have some Satin Billet UPR AC knob and E-brake handle and would like to get the shifter to match the rest of my interior pieces. What should I use to polish it up? Do I need a bench polishing wheel or what? Thanks for the help

if you can remove the parts and have access to a wheel, it will make the job much easier ..the key to doing anything with aluminum is speed and heat, trying to do it by hand would be hit or miss..a dremel is also an option it the parts can't be removed:)

I have a dremel, but what kind of attachment? Something soft or like the wire brush attachment for the dremel?

PS...I can remove the shifter handle with no problem, it just screws right off

If I am not mistaken the Satin Finish is NOT meant to shine so trying to polish it may ruin it. There are two types of aluminum polish one work like Steve said and the other is a chemcial shine with very little effort required. This type is what i use for all my Billet Aluminum in my car and truck.

Adam's Polishes sells the stuff #1 and #2 i use, but i am pretty certain it is the same as this stuff which i hear is also very goood. I would use the Blue and Green. That should be all you need. Simply use some Cotton Terry Towles and MF to buff off.

As for the Dremel you will need special Cotton tips or buffing wheels. You can get that stuff at Eastwood

if you are trying to match the Satin (non-shiny finish) a very fine wire attachment will dull the other pieces, if you want the gloss , almost chrome look, then get the cotton ones ...i think they are available at most home depots or lowes ..sears might have them too
