shelf life and bonnets for orbitals

All,



I'm beginning to get my stuff together (will probably order Klasse this weekend) for a fresh finish on my charcoal Regal. I have been using Gold Class (both Liquid and Paste), and am striving for something a bit better.



First things first - swirl remover. (It's dark, and although I realize there will always be swirls, I just have to try!) I have a bottle of Mequiar's #9, but from what I have read here, there is both an original and version 2 (#9 2.0?). I'm guessing I have the original, since I've had it about a year. Does this stuff ever go "bad"? Even if it doesn't, am I better served by trashing this bottle and getting a bottle of the new stuff? I can get this stuff locally.



I'll be using a generic wal-mart bought orbital buffer with the swirl remover (can't afford a PC right now, and don't want to spend all day on just the swirl remover). Should I be thinking foam bonnet or terry bonnet? (I'm assuming I don't want to use the wool bonnet, as it is probably too abrasive.)

Foam bonnets would be used for applying the wax and terry bonnets for removing or buffing off the wax.



I would try and see if your #9 still works. If not, then just go out and buy the 2.0 version of 3m SMR.
 
I typically use SMR with a foam pad, although on my girlfriend's beater honda the scratches were so bad I tried the wool. On that finish at least, I didn't find too much difference in agressiveness between wool and foam. Not many here seem to favor the terry ones...



I'd try the foam, then move to wool if the foam wasn't cutting it (ohhhh bad pun!:p )

I also recently purchased an inexpensive orbital (at Home Depot-3400rpm $19.95). I have been using Zaino manually on my cars, but thought I would be able to achieve even better results with the orbital. My intensions (at this time) are purely to use it for applying Z. As a newbie, I am not sure which bonnets to use when. It came with several: foam, cotten, wool and one that looks like a nurses cap. Since I have always applied the Z with a cotten pad, I assume that I would use the cotten bonnet for the application, and then buff with a wool one?



Any suggestions would be appreciated.
