Sheepskin wash mitt durability

Sorry for starting new trend about something that was talked about before. I got my genuine sheepskin wash mitt form autogeek.net some time in spring, and I am very disappointed with durability. I probably use it 8 to 10 time so far and mitt is falling apart already I have a big hole in the middle and hair is falling out. I got 2 for about $25 it's kind of pricy if I need to get set of new once every 4 months. Is that all I should expect from it?

Check with Patrick at Excel Detail. He's got some very nice ones for a LOT less than 2/$25. While they don't last forever, at that price you'd expect them to!

How did you wash them after each use? Washing it by machine is a no no with sheepskin. I usually just rinse out all the soap and just hang them dry.

rins and hang only, I don't know maybe I just got bad one or something. I'll see how second one preform. :o

I hear about this a lot on Autopia and other forums. Keep in mind, sheepskin is a natural product as you know, and anytime you get something wet (wih a little soap also) then let it dry, and get it wet, and let it dry, etc...get the picture? They just dont last forever, (Be it from Autopia, Autogeek, Poorboys, Classic etc....it doesnt matter, as sheep are ummm...sheep!) and its really a crap shoot. Some may last several months, some several weeks, and some, as in one case i experienced, just a few washes. I always seem to lose the thumb area or palm area below the thumb......

Don't you guys ever wonder about your sheepskin mitt not getting all of the junk cleaned out of it when you are washing it? I just got my Eurow and have yet to use it.....I want to make sure that before I use it on some uber-flawless paint that there isn't junk from the last wash/car I did with it.

I machine wash my sheepskin mitts after every use, and then toss them in the dryer.

I usually get at least a year of use out of them.

Maybe the washing machine is hard on them, but it does get them clean. A dirty mitt is worse than useless so it's an easy trade-off to make.

As for the drying, the machine gets them dry before than can start to rot.

I have a few from Excel detail and a couple from Walmart. One of them was tore up the other day when i pulled it out of the washer. It had a hole on the seam around the thumb and the fibers are coming out of the palm. The others are still great. I've gotten about the same amout of uses out of each and this is the 1st I've had mess up on me since I've switched over to sheepskin mitts. I got about 4 months use out of it the others are still good as new and I expect to get a lot more out of them. The one that is trashed was a problem from the day I got it. It always sheed a lot and I knew it wasn't going to last too long

I seem to have this problem as well. Mine are falling apart at less than 10 washes, but they are still usable for a couple more.

I've tried the Walmarts ones and the Excel ones and the ones from Excel, the ones I am using now, are far superior. The walmart ones probably lasted 2-3 washes before I through them away. When I put them in a bucket of water, you would see huge clumps of sheep hair floating at the top. The hair would literally fall off. Get the higher quality ones as they are much better quality.

My Eurow wash mitts did not last long in the washer/dryer. I also found that handwashing with a bit of soap gets the mitts cleaner. I hang dry mine and find that it lasts longer this way.

My EUROW sheepskins from Walmart probably last me about 15-20 washes before they get a bit too soiled. At that point I start using a new one and relegate the old one to wheels/lower panel duty for another 15 washes, so I would say I get 40-50 washes out of it.

@ 2 for $25 you're getting RIPPED! Walmart ones are about $5 each and of good quality. I think most on this board would agree with me about the EUROW mitts. You may also want to check out the BAJA Sol line at Target - these are thumbless if that's your thing...

I never wash mine. I just rince ALL the soap from the mitt and place over a coke bottle(20 ounce size) to air dry.

I have one from TWO years ago!! (75-100 car washings)

thanks for replays

yhea I got RIPPED :o , I got it from autogeek together with some other stuff. I'll give eurow try next time.
