Sheepskin damaged by hot water?

I was washing with ONR today and didn't want frostbite on my hands so I used hot water in the rinse bucket (warm water would of just got cold within minutes). When I dipped my mitt in there it just sort of lengthed and stretched out and got pretty floppy. I could see the darkish hide underneath the nap in many spots because the nap kind of bunched together in places. Is it premanently damaged? Should I toss it?
 
I'd be surprised if it were ruined, mine look like that sometimes and they're fine IMO. I've washed them in the washing machine with hot water with no problems. But some mitts just don't hold up as well as others, sorta the nature of a "natural" product, you're gonna get variations of all kinds.
 
I always use hot water for my QEW washes when it's cold outside. My Eurow mits seem fine.
