Sheep Skin mitt vs. Sea Sponge

Ive been using a sea sponge to wash my car but was wondering if there is any advantage of using a skeepskin mitt instead. The great thing about the sea sponge is the amount of water and suds it holds. Not sure how the sheepskin mitts hold up?



Any suggestions?
 
Sea sponge is pretty abrasive depending on what you get .. Sheepskin mitt durability.. so far so good .. I wash 3+ times a week and since march to now I have just had a littl stitching come apart but the sheepskin itself has held up really well. Mine never gets to dry.
 
I was thinking about going with the Autopia Sheepskin mitt. Seems like a quality mitt. The last mitt that i purchased a long time ago was one at walmart. It was so bad (barely held any water and soap) and just didnt seem to do the trick. I hope my luck with this one is good.

They are one in the same .. sheepskin mitt actually gets better with time. Last ones I bought were the ones from Costco .. 4 pack .. one had a web backing .. one was chenelle ..2 were sheepskin.

I bought the Autopia sheepskin mitt a couple weeks ago... used it once so far and it seemed better than the Walmart sheepskin mitt it replaced. Probably be using it again today since my Lightning badly needs a bath. Not to mention a thorough detailing that I just havn't had the time or cooperative weather for so far. Wish I had a garage. :(

Just be sure to get one with leather on the inside, and you'll avoid simulated wool. Synthetic wool may or may not be safe, but it's a total gamble as to what you're really getting.

Are the ones selling in Costco good??? If it is I'm getting it.

They're probably fine. Just be sure to pick out a nice and soft set because sometimes some of the fur feels a bit stiffer. Don't machine wash either. ;)

After trying basically everything out there...i've decided to go back to the big natural sea sponge.



The sponge performed no better or worse than the sheepskin mitt...just much easier to maintain...rinse and dry and that's it. I never had any problems with marring, scratching, etc.



With all these companies out there claiming to have the biggest/best sea sponge, who truly does have the best?



Now that Spring is here, I need to get one soon.

I bought the large sea sponge from Autogeek.



I had to rinse and rinse and rinse it out first before I used it. It was loaded with sand and bits of shells.



It is very soft, but feel the sheepskin is "safer" and does an effective job without marring the paint too much.



I like the sea sponge (very durable) for areas where I need a little more bite like on bumpers, wheels and lower portions of the body.



It's a cool tool to have. You would think it is harsh because when it is dry, but when wet, it's a whole other story. Personally I just am not comfortable with using it on my paint.



When you buy one, I would make sure it comes from Florida and not the Bahamas. I have read that Florida has better quality sponges.

Since when is sea foam abrasive? I use them all the time.



As far as durability, nothing will come close to lasting as long as a sea foam sponge. A dry one will feel hard, but wet it and dunk it in a soapy bucket of water and its a soft as anything out there.



After you are done with them, they make great wheel cleaners.
 
Im going off of my previous experience and will definitely be going back to the sponge.



How's Top of the Line vs Proper auto care? Im leaning towards TOL b/c of the size of the sponge....



Anyone sponge users have positive feedback with a particular brand?
 
I have one from CMA and 2 from autogeek. the one's from autogeek are slightly smaller but a little softer when wet. Could also be the one's i recieved, i'm not sure size will be consistent with the same vendor.
 
Well, if you insist on using these, apply my suggestion to them as well: the more (sponges in this case), the merrier. Switching to fresh washing material more often than you think is really necessary definitely ought to help eliminate any wash induced marring. Just my take on it.
 
Maybe I oughta try poking the nozzle of the foamgun into one of those TOL sea sponges that I couldn't sell to anybody here... not something I'm gonna try on the S8 though ;)



Ehh....I dunno, I think the "strands" of a mitt or even a BHB are probably better suited to my "dislodge and flush" technique...but for people who wash the "conventional" way, I dunno if there'd be any dis/advantage to mitts *or* sea sponges as long as the sea sponge was used properly and not just used to rub the dirt into the finish.
