Long time Zaino user who switched over to Duragloss after the purchase of anew car. Very happy with Zaino but saw a post that suggested I might like Duragloss just as well and it is about half the cost. Very happy with the DG but have to admit I am confused on the products.

Car is brand new so not worried about the quality of the paint. It's also a garage queen and is always in the garage when not being driven. Not unlike me to wax/polish whatever you call it 2 times in a weekend. More interested in a mirror like shine than protection.

Contacted duragloss to ask them for some help. They advised using the 105 only a couple of times a year and to use the Aquawax and Detail spray as often as I wanted. Sounds too simple.

What have you DG users found to be your best results for the best finish. Thanks.

They gave you practical advice on keeping your car looking its best. For a garage queen, more than two coats of 105 a year is a waste of time. It doesn't layer, so putting on more will do nothing for you.

If you really want it to pop, you should use a good finishing polish, factory paint is never close to perfect.

Thanks. Can you recommend a DG "finishing polish" or something that is compatible with DG. I'm sure there are many but I'm really confused given that 105 is a sealant.

Duragloss (and Zaino) don't have any good polishes, but their sealants are solid. HD Finish is a great product, very easy to use and you can top it with 105.

I was already a fan of Duragloss products long before buying my "garage queen" - 2012 Mercedes ML350 in "Diamond White". It is a beautiful paint and a $1600 option so I wanted to treat it right. Here is what I did when I brought it home from the dealer. First, I washed and clayed (although the clay bar showed very little rail dust or other contaminants). I used a mild clay (Griot's and their Speed Shine for the lube). I then wanted a clean surface and there are few products that can match P21S Paintwork Cleanser (I think they must have made this for Mercedes paint because it came out perfect!). I always used Klasse AIO before but P21S is, imo, the better product for paint cleaning although it is not considered an AIO like Klasse. I think recently introduced there is a pure paint cleaner in the Duragloss line called Squeaky Clean and it is suppose to be very good. You may have to call them to order it as I am not sure if it is in the mass market yet. Unlike 105 or 501, it is a paint cleaner without any sealant.

Once the car was prepped I was ready to use the Duragloss products. Since the car was so new and perfect I skipped a heavy polish and only applied a coat of one part 601 bonding agent to four parts 105. I waited until the next day and applied a second coat although it really did not need it. As with the P21S, I applied these products thin using Griot's 6" Electric Polisher. I maintained this using Duragloss AquaWax about every second or third wash. Sometimes I applied AquaWax as a "topper" when the car was dry and sometimes I used it after my rinse as a drying aid. It works both ways. Whenever I decided to go with a rinseless wash it was either ONR or Duragloss with AquaWax (I think I prefer the Duragloss rinselss but both are really good).

The second time around I tried something different - instead of two coats of 601/105 I applied only one coat with my second being 601/111. The 111 is unlike 105 in that it is pure sealant and has no polish. It is also a bit "brighter" looking (some might call it "sterile") with a "candy apple" sheen to it. They say it is not as durable as 105 but I put something on my car every few months so durability is not a real factor. I've also use Collinite 845 as my LSP over Duragloss and it is great looking and very compatible with Duragloss. I've also experimented with different "toppers" besides AquaWax including OCW, CG's V7 and Griot's spray wax. They all work with Duragloss and all enhance the shine. My current favorite is Lucas Slick Mist. It smells like bubble gum and is as versatile as AquaWax - and looks just as good.

So there you have it. Probably more than you wanted to know but that is my routine with Duragloss on a newer car. Duragloss has products for all conditions of paint but I would stick with their products primarily for newer or well maintained cars. I think there are better compounds elsewhere for abused paint.

Thanks much shortspark. That is exactly what I was after. 2014 Porsche 911 here so my situation is the same as yours. What I am struggling with really is what can I put on top of the 105/601 and the Aquawax, or do I even need to. Being a sealant I am not sure if a traditional yellow paste wax or polish on top is any better for shine than just the Aquawax

A new 911, eh? Lucky you!! Your question really needs experimentation for a good answer. I used 845 and like the look but does it "enhance" the look of the Duragloss sealants and AquaWax? Well, maybe and maybe not depending on your taste and what you see. The "yellow" wax you refer to is probably straight Caranuba and I tried the Griot's Professional Wax with good results but it gave a richer hue over the Duragloss than did 845. Chances are you will like the looks of the Duragloss sealants alone. Experiment with wax if you want and see what you think.

megmarc--there seems to be some confusion between a "Polish" and "Sealant" which is caused by the names the manufacturers use. DG calls 105 a polish, but it is really just a sealant with some chemical cleaners in it--a Polish has abrasives which remove the imperfections in the paint. So to get the mirror like shine you want the paint should be polished before applying the sealant or wax. Even new car paint will benifit from a polishing, but you need a Random Orbital Dual Action polisher (like the Griots) to accomplish this--by hand really doesn't work. As Dan mentioned HD Polish is very easy to use and effective polish that removes easily after polishing that will work well with the DG line.

As a long time Zaino user I too was amazed at the lack of work involved when I switched over to DG.

You seem to be struggling with the look you want--high gloss, glassy sealant look or deeper wet wax look. Since your car is a garage queen and as you say you often apply another coat of whatever, you might want to consider HD POXY which is a hybrid sealant and wax. I've been very impressed with the look on lighter colors--adds richness to the paint and on darker paint it has that deep wet look of a wax. You can expect 3-4 months protection on a normal use vehicle, but in your case you might get 6 months out of an application. You can top it with Aquawax, but based on the suggestion of another member here I tried CG V7 spray for a fantastic shine with the deepness of a wax.

You can purchase HD products direct from HD or here's another source with very reasonable shipping (free if the order is over $25 and under 5 lbs) 3D/HD - Autoality Incorporated

Thanks very much pwaug and shortspark. Much appreciate the info and recommendations. Think I at least understand it now. Think I will give the HD POXY a try. Thanks again.

Put the POXY on very thin as you would any sealant or wax--allow to haze then buff off will be very easy.
