SG Question for you Pros

OK, I know rule of thumb is before adding a second coat or a topper to SG, is to wait 24 hours. What do you pros do, being you prob never have a vehicle long enough to follow this procedure? Do you just add a topper right after or do you guys just never use a product like Klasse out in the field? Not looking to go pro, but was just kinda wondering what protocol was in that scenario. Yes I played with my new Klasse products for the first time during the holidays and obviously spent too much time thinking about it!:nixweiss

First of all, most pros won't use boutique products like Z or Klasse because of curing times. Second of all, people who top immediate do so with paste wax. Low in solvents, so it shouldn't affect the sealant underneath. This was discussed in a recent thread. The higher solvent content to keep waxes liquid may break up the sealant underneath if it is not cured fully.

When I have used Klasse on customers vehicles. I never really felt there was any need for a topper. I really believe that if the paint is prepped well, a wax topper is just not necessary. Granted, I might do it on my own car, but that is just because I get bored and to get that ever so slight edge or darkening of my black paint. A lot of people forget how good SG looks just by itself.

I just use one coat of SG or Platinum's UPP. If they want a second layer or a paste wax topper, I will either apply it the next week (assuming they are a weekly wash customer), or the next day. There is an extra charge for layering of course.

Most people are happy with a single layer though.

I've never used SG on a customer's vehicle. Takes way too much time to do.

I prefer something like Pro's Profection but I mainly just use P21S. It's not synthetic but it works well. It goes on easily and comes off easily and you don't have to wait at all to buff the product off.

As a detailing professional I only use the Meguiars line-up of professional products.

That's probably why I never run into this type of curing problem.

I use Meguiars BSP line also and love it, but I also will use some specialty products on my customer's vehicles because either it lasts longer or looks better. Sealants like SG, UPP and Poorboy's EX give me a nice upsell opportunity. If Meguiars new NXT is as good as the early reviews say it is, then I have another good option.

You really should try the Klasse twins, UPP, Poorboy's and Clearkote products. I think you will be pleasantly suprised at the results you get. Lay down a nicely prepped base with DACP and SFP and then mix and match some of the other glazes and waxes/sealants and see how you like it.
