Did anybody else find that the surface smoothness decreased with more coats of SG?
Not that mine became rough, but compared side by side to the Suburban, like I mentioned above, I could see that more coats did reduce the smoothness by a small amount.
do u think if i have 3 layers of fmj, topped with 8-10 coats of sg, topped with 3 coats of p21s; that it will last through out the winter with washes, and qd every now and then? also, i was wondering if it would have any protection against rock chips, cause those are killin me!!!!
I certainly hope so! No amount of sealant or wax I know of can prevent chipping. You need a car bra or an invisible bra made of that 3m Scotchcal material for the chips
What are the thoughts as to the cause of marring with multiple apps of sg?, and does the possiblility increase with 4-5-6 layers?? I ask because with three on the Jetta the finish is perfect. I do wait about 20 minutes before reapplying and as a final wipe on each coat use a micro cloth, all by hand.
The marring I'm talking about is visible under intense scrutiny with multiple angles using 1000 watt halogens in a garage. I inspect with the halogens and my flourescent garage lighting both on and also in the garage in the dark with only the halogens on. I also repeat using a trouble light with incandescent bulb.
The marring has not multiplied. I think it may be due to former not extreme enough wash pratices ( no foam gun until recently but alwys multiple prewashed sheepskin mitts and ww mfs) or, as I suspect more the case, abrasives in polishes not always breaking down completely due to my impatience I also really try to replicate operating room conditions now when polishing now
In the summer months i'll go nuts with mulitple coats of SG.. then I top with Natty's x3 . Then I'll re-wash with Dawn to remove the Natty's and apply more coats of SG..
overall, i really don't see any difference between coat number 3 and coat number 4 ?
nor do i see any significant "pop" by adding Natty's x 4..
