I shall continue to taunt your staticy phone!

Ahah! I'm not going crazy! All along I thougt Steve's phone was the reason why I can never hear or understand hime. It sounds like he's speaking with a pillow in front of his face while eating a bag of Doritos. C'mon Steve, toss that POS free Sports Illustrated football phone and go buy a good ol' fashioned AT&T corded phone. And I don't mean one with a rotary dial :) .

Natty

I am very glad to see that this situation is being addressed. I was really losing patience and felt that it was becoming a waste of time to read many/most of the posts.

There is a lot of really good people here that have a wealth of knowledge to share. But, each of us have to be honest with each other and ourselves regarding our actual skill level, knowledge on the subject etc... . To comment on purely hearsay is foolhardy and irresponsible. No one will take the posts seriously and hence, will stop reading them all together.

Sorry for being so blunt, but I was to the point of not posting any longer.

Tim

Tim ...nice to see you back...this is my last post of the night..need some sleep...

Just hit the "report to moderator " button and Im sure you'll get a response...that was what I heard right from the top man...off topic tangents will not be tolerated any more, unless in the off the beat...forum...where almost anything ..."almost" goes

people don't also realize that every post cost $$ and space...having a free forum like this is a privledge not a right, and I'll do what ever I can to keep it that way...

good night DC:o

To our credit, and the reason that I encourage people to use the report post to moderator link is that..... no one ever used it. There is no better way to notify a mod, it will notify The Fuzz, Koop and myself all at the same time. This is a wonderful tool.

As we get busier it is hard for me personally to go through and read every post so if I do not hear any complaints I can only assume that no news is good news.

I encourage anyone and everyone to keep an open line of communication with me if there are ever any concerns so that I can better address key issues.

If I am not informed I cannot help but when there is a concern and you give me the opportunity to address it.... I make things happen.

I haven't been very active on this board lately and have found the majority of the recent posts of no interest to me.

I hope things can get back to the way they were.

I still check in from time to time, but sadly I'm not getting the wealth of great information that I used to, and I don't have much to contribute to most of the threads.

:(

I guess then, I am part of the problem? I have very recently tried to cut back on anything pointless in the main forums., I thinnk I am making an improvement. I sure this place doesnt die though, I easily spend more than 3 hours a day here.

When I first started to post this, I almost deleted it.
It seems that it came across in the manner I had intended and not as a slam at anyone.
The thing that I am hoping is that we all give some thought to what and where we are posting. It seems like that point has been made.
There is so much information and advice available here from so many people, I certainly don't want to suggest that anyone not post, just read it and think about it before you hit the submit button.
My car care history goes back about 55 years, and I thought I knew what I was doing. Man, did I ever find out how little I really did know. I won't even get into how much of it was wrong.
We don't need any major changes or rule implementation, we just need to use some common sense.
Sounds like we might be starting to do just that.

Yes recently I have begun to cut back on my rampant posting, and I definately do not think I qualify for postwhore.

My only concern is the new moderators getting too strict. Not every infringment needs reprimanding, its only continued problems that do.

For example. Lets say we get a new person who comes on, and starts reading a thread. WHile in the middle of a conversation, he begins to wonder how a certain product would work with this application, or a different method of sorts. So he just blurts it out. He comes back to find a moderator asking him to not ask such a question and to make his own thread for it in the appropraite forum. Well, this may be what NEEDS to happen, but this is the wrong way to do it. All it does is belittle the new poster and point him out in his misconduct, which is ultimately going to negate his desire to post here.

Personally, while it may take some extra effort, such posts should be split from the thread into the seperate thread, and moved if necessary. Its quite easy to find them again.

/edit - I am adding this for reasons of understanding. A concern was expressed that above, I made a reference to Koop and a time where he asked someone (quite nicely I might add) to ask his quesiton in another thread. Some felt that I was slamming Koop here for being too strict, when in actuality, I completely agreed with the course of action he took. The reason for my words was to express a concern that such moderating could be taken to an extreme, where even the smallest infringment was punished. I was expressing a concern about this, and this only, I was not expressing a concern about Koop's moderating abilites.

I apologize for any and all misunderstandings.

Moderating

I would like to suggest a little more moderation of, and attention payed to suppliers using every available thread to push their products.

I realize this is a sponsored board but, IMHO, its getting out of hand.

Thank you

This is a good example of the "report this post" function. The moderators will then be able to determine by the number of reports if several people feel that way or it is just one persons opinion. :)

I am bringing this thread back up for a reason. In my above post I made an edit, and such an edit I feel is an important read for most active posters of Detail City. I just want to make sure that any misunderstandings are resolved.

Good for you Tass---that is being very big of you! Things were getting out of hand and I for one was becoming a little grumpy and it was starting show in my posts.

As for Moderation, any open forum requires someone(s) to keep the peace. But it is easy to start ruling with an iron fist. I am a moderator on another detailing site and I know full well how easy it is to want to chase/correct every infraction. In reality, you can not. But something here clearly had to be done, and it was.

Now it is time to move on!!
