Seen my friend detail today, i was shocked!!!

Localized damage like that is usually very visible, so that even a moron should be able to see the difference between the good paint and the damaged area. Even then, they won't necessarily care about the damage -- they may think it's "normal". But at least they should be able to see it.

There is a local gas station here that has a carwash outside. People line up forever to go through it. There are two guys that stand at the entrance and quickly scrub the whole car, even the hood, as the car enters the wash. Then they just dip those big nasty brushes back into a dirty bucket, and scrub the next one! I get sick everytime I'm watching it while pumping gas. Not too mention it's a brush wash as well. I should stand there on the other side handing out flyers as they pull out. :)

I can't watch other people wash cars. Hurts too much.

sometimes I'd rather have my skeleton leap out of my body.... :soscared:

my friend cleans his bug shield with brillo or steelwool.... :faint:

I have this problem when I go to my father-in-laws house... his wash routine (or rather lack of it, coz my mother-in-law does it for him coz he's too lazy!) is just unbelievable! I wouldn't even bring myself to describe it on this forum... you'd all be crying into your keyboards! I won't even offer to sort out the paint damage because I know it'd go straight back to square one after the next wash!

I went to a club event a few weeks back. These are car enthusiasts but watching them wash their cars was rather painful. One guy washed and scrubbed his wheels and then proceeded to use the same rag to wash the rest of the car and didn't bother to rinse it out. :wall Another started scrubbing the bugs off the front of his car with this nylon pad. Oh man, that was painful. :hairpull

That's why on the car club site I belong to, one of the first things I did was start responding to detailing-related threads. I'm now known as the "resident detailer" and people seem to be following what I'm telling them. Hopefully that's a bunch of Trailblazers and Envoys held away from the swirl-filled abyss by Autopian ways. :bounce

Hey everyone,

I have a black mazda millenia and has some minor swirl marks and I have used Meguries products before and decided to use some better products. I was wondering if my process was right.

Wash

Clay

Wash

SSr2.5

AIO

P21S paste wax

Can I apply the AIO right after the SSr2. or not? I heard something about this in previous posts.

Any advice would be wonderful! Thanks a lot

Shiny - I was just reading some posts on a CR-V forum that I frequent, and me and another guy on there are Autopians. I didn't know that about him, but from his post I could tell. Anyway, he was saying we should start a sticky over there about detailing and such as there are many people that don't really know what to do in a situation. One guy had paint overspray on his car and people were recommending things like kerosene and goo gone to get it off! Anyway, I like to dispense detailing advice and have people report back that it worked great. I told the overspray guy to get a claybar. He did, it worked.

Yeah that's basically what I've been trying to do. I am a Staff Writer for the forum I'm referring to, so I've been working at a series of detailing articles people can reference. Once I'm finished I'll post them all up and hopefully give people a better resource than my saying "well heres what I would do, and maybe you should search autopia" -- they claim autopia is too large and confusing. Which, I suppose, it can be for newbies who don't really want to wade through a sea of information and product suggestions. With these guys I usually stick to the mainstay products from Meguiar's, Mothers, Eagle One, Zaino, and other autozone/pepboys/napa brands. I've already convinced a few of them with black trucks to get PCs since their swirls were so bad. :woohoo:
