Seeking Detailing Sensai

This is my first post here but I was directed here from people on many other forums.

I just recently purchased a black G35 coupe and I want to learn how to take care of it. I know all the information I need is probably ON this forum already but I am hoping for some hands on experience.

If anyone is willing, I am looking for someone to walk me through a detailing session. Show me the right tools and supplies, and how to use them - I just think SEEING how to do this stuff is much better than reading about it, thinking you understand how to do it, and ruining your car.

I live up in the NW burbs of Chicago. I am willing to drive to you, and purchase whatever I need to. I'm also willing to pay you for your time.

If this post sounds seedy I do not mean it to. I'm not trying to buy anyone, I am just looking for help. I want to be SHOWN the proper way by someone more experienced than myself (almost anyone). I think I am in the right place, is anyone out there willing to teach me the detailing craft?

Let me say :welcome to the site!!!

I wish that I could be of some help to you but I am still a n00b here myself and I don't live close to Chicago either :doh All I can say is read, read, read!! I have 4 pages full of notes on my desk about what polishes to use with what waxes, the Klasse and Menzerna Twins.... it goes on and on! I'm still trying to make sense of it!

Enjoy yourself and read everything you can. I hope someone from the greater Chicago area sees this and can help you out.

welcome to the site! Come on down to Florida and I will show you what to do. You can stay at my house, will cost you a six pack a day!!

What a nice car... I would order the wolf gang kit with wash, pre wax cleaner and sealant for starters. You can't mess that up at all.

http://www.autogeek.net/wg6000.html

Go to this link.... Cut it and paste it in your browser.

Why I recommend this kit well:

Wolfgang Auto Bathe (16 oz.)

Wolfgang Pre-Wax Polish Enhancer (16 oz.)

Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant (16 oz.)

2 Microfiber Detailing Cloths

2 Microfiber Applicator Pads

2 Poly Foam Wax Applicator Pads

The Wolfgang Handbook

Look at all you get. It would be a SAFE and great way to start. It is also only 50 bucks.... Check it out you won't be upset..

Welcome! Your best non-human friends here are the "Search" button and the "Acronyms" link on home page. Remus, Mr. Clean's advice is honestly not bad advice. The directions that come with this kit are straightforward. The only thing I would add to this beginners list is:

1) Sheepskin wash mitt

2) Tire dressing (303 for low shine, NXT Tech Protectant for high)

3) Waffle-weave drying towel

Enjoy the learning process! As long as you start slowly and are willing to learn, there is no way to do any damage. :xyxthumbs

Hats off to you for asking! Short of finding a reference or "sensai" from Autopia, your in good hands here, as you can see ! If all else fails ya have us here !

Thank you very much for all the replies. I will be (and have been) looking around the site - this place is awesome SOOOO much info.

I guess my biggest fear is that there are already some swiel marks and a few (I think) scratches or "smears" it's hard to explain and I just DO NOT want to screw up fixing those.

I will definately look into Mr. Clean's advice, that's exactly what I'm looking for an easy to use complete kit to get sarted with.

-pwalk- If I'm ever in the area I'll bring a case! But then I might have some worries - it is ok to drink and wash???

Thanks again guys!

I'm in Arlington Heights.

Unfortunately, I can't offer to help you out right now, as I'm in my final semester at school and all my time (except this weekend) until Jun 17 will (or at least should) be spent on focusing on school.

Scott (Bwana) is also in AH and he's awesome at detailing. You might wanna PM him.

There are a bunch of chi-town members here, so look and see who you can find. There was a chicago thread in the hot tub last year, search for "chicago" in the title and see if you can find it

David-

Thanks! I play volleyball in AH every wednesday and I work close to there too. I'll see if I can get ahold of bwana.

:nixweiss If you are willing to drive down to Arlington, TX.....

I'm quite sure you can find a very good Autopian in your area though.

Where in AH do you play? We used to play after work at Deer Park Forest Preserve on Dundee and Hicks Rd.

Are you in a league? Or is it for fun?

It's a league - but really it's still for fun. We just switched to the league this year (used to play in northbrook and wheeling) and we're in a bit over our heads! We play at the Edgar Allen Poe school.
