Seeking additions/corrections to abrasives list

Yeah, I looked it over today for the first time in ages and I don't see anything really wrong. Certainly accurate within one class either way for all the products listed and probably more acccurate than that.

1z mp is listed at 2 and 3. As 1z mp and then einszett metallic?Maybe im wrong?

Also #7 can polish somewhat. I just used it and it was removing contaiminents on the pad to where it became almost black and brought up the shine and clarity big time. Removed some slight imperfections....semi water spot edging. Its maybe a 1.5, but its definently not just a filler.

Also Deep Crystal paint cleaner should be like a 3. I noticed it can take out light scratches but leaves some micromarring.

I have started a thread that links pad foam types and colours to recommended polishes in this thread. For the sake of completeness I would be helpful to add a grade 0 for pure sealants or waxes with no cleaning or abrasiveness at all. Some possible entries would be -

1Z Glanz Wax

3M Perfect-It Show Car Paste Wax

Autoglym Extra Gloss

Blackfire All Finish Paint Protection

Clearkote Carnauba Moose Wax

Collinite #476s Super Doublecoat Auto Wax

Collinite #915 Marque D' Elegance

Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze

Meguiars #16

Meguiars #20 Polymer Sealant

Meguiars #26 Hi-Tech Yellow Wax

Meguiars Deep Crystal Wax

Meguiars Gold Class Wax

Meguiars NXT Tech Wax

Menzerna Full Molecular Jack

Nattys Paste Wax

P21S Concours/Carnauba

Pinnacle Signature Series Wax

Pinnacle Souveran

Poorboys EX

Poorboys EX-P

S100 Carnauba Paste Wax

Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant

Zaino Z2

Zymol Hand Crafted Waxes + Estate Glazes

Back on topic, would Poorboys PwC and PP be a grade 2 on that list ?

Colin, Clearkote CMW has Petroleum carriers, so it would have to be listed as a light (1) cleaner IMO. Also Megs #20 (2) , and NXT, cleaner/sealant, maybe a 1.

I am just a newb but i didnt see the sonus products on there. are they no good? I purchased the sf1 and sf2 then klasse all in one and ps1.

I have a 94 supra whose paint is beaten to hell. I have been trying to cut it with the sf1 and a yellow sonus pad but there is a lot not coming out. It is prob me but should i be using a 3m polish to really cut with my pc

The Sonus polishes are just too new to have been added to here. Can anybody chime in with their thoughts and then we can ask Beanbag to update? Should be some others that have not been added, Optimum, and some other new ones.

where can i purchase MEGUIAR’S BODY SHOP PROFESSIONAL DUAL ACTION CLEANER POLISH MEDIUM CUT.

I have a red 94 supra paint looks real bad. I just got a pc and really want to fix the paint. I cant find this anywhere. also if there is something better you think i should use let me know.

I already purchased sonus sf1 and sf2, klasse all in one and ps2, but the sf1 doesnt seem to be getting down enough. Is sf1 comparable to meguirs or not

also where can i get MEGUIAR’S BODY SHOP PROFESSIONAL DUAL ACTION CLEANER POLISH MEDIUM CUT if the sonus is not aggressive enough

From my experience with the SFX, the 1 is comparable to DACP, the 2 is similar to #80, and the 3 is a very light polish, maybe like a VM.

I would say yes. PP would be rated with a C as it's a chemical cleaner.

PP has no oils/fillers.

I have them both.

Heavy Cut is ...well pretty heavy in the cutting area. It is not a product you can use then just go directly to a wax. It needs to be smoothed over, depending on what pad is used with it, with something like IP or Med. cut. Persoanlly I would not use a PC or Cyclo with the heavy cut, rotary only in my opinion.

Medium Cut is perhaps not as aggressive as PG and yet not as mild as IP.

Hi-Temp delivers quality professional products at great prices. They do not seek to have fancy packaging or labels so this saves them in production cost.

Lastly, it is difficult to pin down a universal meaning for "polish" and "cleaning" that all detailers would agree on. Personally I see "polishing" as the removal of marring, swirls, scratches and to then achieve a highly reflective finish.

To "clean" would then mean to remove oxidation and paint contaminates.

Others may agree, others disagree.....hey, it's just wax:D

Hi-temp HCPL won't do anything w/a PC except piss you off (don't ask me how I know).

I use it w/my Dewalt 849 + LC Orange Pads. I try to keep the RPM's down to minimize the holograms.

Every time I use the Light Cut w/a PC all I get is micro-swirls so I use another Orange pad or a 3m black Waffle on the rotary as a follow up. I really like Hi Temp's products.

Hello beanbag,

If I could just add a comment (and possible correction).

4 - POLISHES

3M PERFECT-IT III MACHINE GLAZE 05937

MEGUIER’S QUICK DETAILER #66

MEGUIER’S SPEED GLAZE #80

MEGUIAR’S SCRATCH-X #108

Hi-temp Light Cut

Meguiars #66 is not a polish (nor is it a compound or a glaze). It is a cleaner wax. Should it even be on the list if it does not fall under any of the categories in discussion? Just curious that all.

You're right, it is a cleaner/wax, but on steroids. It contains quite an aggressive abrasive which can do reasonable paint correction.

Because its mainly used for its polishing attributes it belongs in this list. :up

Just wanted to bump this back up and see if others have some more additions to make.

What is the opinion of ClearKote's Red Machine Glaze? (RMG) My understanding is that is is less abrasive (if at all) than their vanilla moose.

I have only read through the 1st page of this posting, and since I have little practical experience I believe I have good experience in seeing the things that have been talked about since I joined without being tainted by product use.

In that regard, the chart seems to be a guide only and a rough guide at that, but it sure would be nice to see something like this/that which was updated from Autopian knowledge rather than a Manufactures chart. Anyone (I have) can go to there charts, but a vast number of you professionals have shown over and over that you shouldn't put all your chips on the table according to what they say, because it isn't necessarily so by sometimes a long shot.

The proverbial icing on the cake would be a Chart that included a picture of the swirl/scratch/oxidation (Good picture), Paint type (vehicle & year), Etc,. This would be the main body of the data base. The input side of the equation would tell you what worked for "X" number of people, Compound, Polish, cleaner, sealer, glaze, wax, special instructions, etc,.

Just a thought right now but a very feasible project if handled correctly!

Thanks beanbag for starting the thread....very helpful for us newbie to know where a product probably stands..... I actually didn't see this thread at first but found the table from Meguiars' forum, great chart
