SEC with PC?

Well did my first run with the PC on the 'rents car. Wow, is all I have to say - if you are sitting on the PC fence, JUMP off and buy one, it's definately a must have.

Did DACP, SEC topped with S100. Got rid of, I'd say, 85 to 90% of the swirls. Considering just how bad this car was, it's a HUGE difference and a very positive visual difference ESPECIALLY in direct sunlight. Now some questions...

1) With DACP, how fast do you move the buffer? Do you go slow or fast when moving the PC?

2) What is the best way to apply SEC with the PC? Work it in like DACP, spread it around let it dry, etc etc.

3) Meg SMR didn't really add anything or get rid of anything that I saw. Should I have done the entire car with it?

4) How do you properly use Sratch X for the more stubborn scratches?

1) I haven't used DACP so I can't answer. But from what I've read, you apply 4 small size drops to pad, spread it in and work it till it's dust. Anywhere from 3-5 minutes.

2) I've used GEPC (same stuff). White Pad. Apply 4 small drops, use medium speed (maybe like 3-4). Work to a dust and buff. Maybe 2 minutes.

3) You may not need to use the SMR since you're using SEC as a final polish. DACP can sometimes make the finish look hazey and leave some marring. The SMR helps clean it up. I think so long as you're using SEC, you can skip this step.

4) haven't used, but most likely by hand. There was a post on here about a guy who detailed a Ferrari using Scratch X. Came out awesome. Hey if it's good enough for a $100k car... Do a search and see if you can find it.

1) I've yet to use DACP, but I'd guess that it functions similarly to FI-II, which I've used. Like, DACP, FI-II breaks down into a finer polish, but I am unsure of any other similarities or differences beyond that. Anyway, I move the PC at about a rate of 2 - 3 inches per second with overlapping passes, putting about 20 pounds of pressure on the PC (less on ridged areas). With each pass, I reduce pressure and increase pass speed.. By the 6th or 7th pass, I'd have reduced weight on the PC to the point where I just use the weight of the PC, and my passes are going about 6 - 10 inches per second. Somewhere after the 4th or 5th pass I'd usually rehydrate the area with a little QD. This is the procedure I'd use when the product is applied with a CMA yellow pad; I'd make less passes with less pressure if I were using a wool pad.

3) Even though a finish might look fine right after an abrasive polish such as FI-II or DACP, I'd worry about areas that i might not have been as thorough.. An SMR would help get rid of any hazing that would potentially be left over.

4) The most common method I've heard (and that I personally use) is to use a cotton terry cloth or applicator to rub along the direction of the scratch. People have said that its abrasiveness is comparable to that of an SMR, but I always wind up with hazing that needs to be removed with FI-II, or at the very least, 3M SMR.

Congratulations Konowl. :) I'll try to help where I can..

1) I move it fairly slowly, as I believe most users do. Raymond's description sounds about right for what I'm thinking, although I tend not to use much pressure.

3) Some people don't feel the need to use something after DACP, some do, it depends on how it looks after DACP though. On lighter coloured paint you may not see any hazing. Also (and I haven't been keeping on top of this issue) the SEC may be enough to take care of DACP hazing as well.

4) I'm not sure why I have Scratch-X, and don't have much use for it. DACP is stronger than it and probably better at tackling scratches, though I haven't tried. Scratch-X seems a bit too mild to me.

The red paint on my Prelude was in pretty good shape, having done the PIII Mg, AIO SG thing, but it could be improved.

PC set at 6, dollop of SEC on megs yellow pad, worked aggressively with pressure on a 1 and half foot by 2 foot area.

Could not be happier with the results....like yourself, I got rid of 80-90 per cent of the swirling and all the leopard size watermarks which were etched in pretty good (I parked next to the wrong sprinkler)

Apparently you can be pretty aggressive with this product and not get into trouble.

I wiped off the stuff after doing each area, and although there was some streaking, it all disappeared after applying wax.

My experience for what its worth.
