Sealing/waxing chrome

I had some post exchanges with a few members on another forum about motorcycle detailing and an issue came up about sealing or waxing chrome.

It was suggest that it shouldn't be done. One member even suggested that chrome will pit if sealed. That doesn't make any sense to me. Anyone have any facts on the matter?

I don't have any chrome on any of my vehicles, but I still get the odd older SUV with chrome bumpers, and the odd car with chromed mag wheels, so it's a bit of a concern for me.

I have the factory chrome rims on my wifes Town & Country and I wax them regularly with no problems. The van is a 2000 and I've been waxing them since it was new.

Hope this helps.....

Thanks. Yeah, that's what I had always done with my chrome bumpers on my old truck, and I never had any problems.

For chrome bumpers and wheels that is good shape:
1. wash with car wash
2. clay
3. AIO
4. UPP

For Chrome in fair to rough shape:
1. Time
2. Wash and clay
3. Polish with metal polish
4. AIO
5. UPP

I also think sealed or protected chrome looks better.

Yeah, that's kind of my routine. But I used #20 as a one step after the metal polish, instead of AIO and UPP.
