Sealing a new car?

Does it really matter what wax/sealant you use on a brand new car?/Should you not seal it because it's "fresh paint"?

I don't know how long the cars sit before they're shipped to the dealers.

If there are any special sealants for new paint what would you recommend? I'm guessing I would just use a pure wax and not one with cleaners or polish. I noticed poorboys has one as well as SmartSealant.



I tried searching for this but nothing would come up.
 
Do you mean brand new, as in an '07 or '08? In that case, treat it normally. The paint is cured at the factory, so it's actually ready to go before it leaves their doors.

It actually doesn't matter how new it is, they have been curing cars at the factory for quite awhile now.



But yea, don't worry about it. Have fun! :)
 
when you buy a new car from the dealership it's finish has already been cured at the factory as stated (they have had it for months prior), and chances are it will have some bonded contaminants from it's travel and from just sitting on the lot (not to mention some scratches from improper/poor wash and drying technique). when you pick her up, evaluate the finish and determine what's needed, and have at it...
 
The paint has cured. If it came by rail you probably have rail dust on the car. If it came by truck it has dust buil up. A light clay job and a light polish job is in the works. Follow by your favorite wax or sealant.
 
Definitely evaluate the paint for swirls. I was horrified to find the dealer using a terry cloth towel (that had seen much better days) to dry the brand new Jetta I bought for my wife last November.

Even if swirling is minimal, I would definitely do something like a white pad / Optimum Polish to perfect the paint a bit, and start with a known surface before applying a sealant for protection.
