sealants vs carnubas?

So after reading alot of posts on here, Im getting the impression that for light colored or metallic cars you want to use a carnuba. And for dark or solids you want to use a sealant, this is when best appearance is the main concern. Is this correct? Sounds like carnuba have more "pop" and bring out more of the metallics? Recomendations for either?
 
It just depends on the sealant in a lot of cases. Klasse and Zaino have a brighter and more reflective look than Poorboy's or Blackfire (which have a more traditional carnauba look).



Actually sealants tend to look better on lighter colors since they make them even more reflective and carnaubas look better on darker colors...then again, it is pretty subjective depending on what look you prefer.

Yeah, if you were going to generalize, then you probably want to make the reverse generalization. In general carnauba has more depth and such, thus making it more suited to deep colors (read: dark colors). On light colors, lots of reflection is more of what you want, as depth is pretty impossible to get. So sealants tend to have more reflection.



But these are pretty big generalizations.
 
I'd have to agree with what the other guys said.



I own a black pearlescent GTI and I find that if I just leave the Klasse, it looks very reflective and mirror like (which is what I like) and when I topped with a carnauba (#26) it did indeed add depth but I liked the mirror look better.
 
I use Carnaubra wax on the Jag (BRG) and Autoglym on the Volvo (mettalic silver) so I'd agree with 'Aurora40'

personally, sealants such as upp and blackfire give both the look of a caranuba even though it is a synthetic polymer like klasse and zaino. I personally prefer polymers over caranubas when it comes to protection, and even look wise(it adds shine, depth, and clarity for silver especially), I still think polymers are the better of the two. Think about it, today's world is filled with crap going around, you should at least have a layer of a sealant on if you are a caranuba user so that if you get acid rain, that it won't eat through the wax easy. But hey, Im just one person, Im sure many others will give you diff suggestions.
 
LightngSVT - What color are you working with? IMO, it's all really gonna come down to personal preference anyhow. We have two silver Audis, virtually identical. My wife likes one look on hers and I like a different look on mine. Both look great, but they ARE different. You might want to experiment a bit and see what really looks good to YOU. Most of the "best" products are pretty easy to use, so it's not THAT big a deal to try them out.



But tell us what color you have and maybe we can help you narrow it down.
 
I'd go with polymers on light colored cars. Darker colored cars show an easily recognizable difference between polymers and waxes. In my experience, Klasse seems to work well on both light and dark colored cars but its look can be easily altered by topping with carnaubas. It does come down to personal preference.
 
Another vote for poly/light and carnuba/dark, but it's soooooo subjective. With proper prep, the differences become nuances.

At times, it seems like splitting hairs! I have used Klasse AIO alone and with P21S/S100 over it on my red Ody, topping with the P21S/S100 definitely made an improvement in the depth and richness of the gloss. But I got the same results by just using P21S paintwork cleanser & P21S/S100 wax but lost the durability of the Klasse. Did the same test with Autoglym SRP & P21S/S100 with about the same results, the Autoglym tends to hide minor swirl marks better than Klasse. Find the products that have the right combination of factors for you; ease of application, durability, appearance, etc. and stick with them!
