sealants that are suppose to be topped with a carnuba

Now, do you have any thoughts on carnaubas that might be more forgiving (lower solvent content) than others? :D

Thx.
Paste waxes are probably safer because they generally use heavier solvents, which is why they're pastes.

If you search around for some product tests floating around someplace, you'll see that paste waxes tend not to pull colour off of paint, while liquids (usually) do. While this isn't a guarantee that pastes don't do this to sealants, topping products like Klasse has been done for a while, even with short-lived waxes that disappear but leave the Klasse behind. The two findings together seem to support each other, even if they are not conclusive.

I know on my car I can't possibly have a trace of S100 left on it, since it was ages since I used any, but the Klasse still seems to be there. (It's hurting for an overhaul though... :o)

I agree with Brian. If you are going to top a sealant, then stick with paste waxes.

You can also use a hybrid product like Poorboy's EX Sealant w/carnauba as your last step product.

Just wanted to chime in that I did take factors such as Forrest's reasoning into account. I top Z purely for aesthetics as I do not care for the sterile shine of Z itself. I now use Z solely for it's durability and protection and leave the carnauba to take care of the "looks" department.

After a whole season of doing so I have to say I did not find any downside to topping Z except when wanting to re-apply in the fall, making sure all carnauba was gone while not removing any Z which was still on the finish.

Great thread, guys- thank you for all the input!:xyxthumbs

My experience with topping Z with P21S has been good.

I agree with audio1der....I typically have 4-5 coats of Z on and then use P21S carnauba as an "interim" quick wax as it were.....maybe the P21s removes some Z, but I like the look. That is why people top sealants with carnauba...for the "look" even if it is subtle or nonexistent to others.
