sealant for black non clearcoated paint?

OK, I've decided to have a break from buying more detailing supplies for a while (like I'm going to keep that resolution!!!!) so Ican concentrate on my toy. 16 year old with non clearcoated non-metallic black paint.

I'd like people's input on the sealant - not "the best" as that's likely to start a raging debate - rather "the nicest" - what works for you & why?

Car is a real garage queen (doesn't go out if it's raining etc.) so I want to achieve deep, wet, glossy paint with durability being a secondary issue.

I've already clayed and started on the bonnet and I now have #82 SFP & Menzerna's IP/FP combo so I'm there on the polish front (#9 & DACP et al also in the cupboard).

I plan on using P21S as a wax but guess I ought to seal in between the polish/wax stage? If ultimate durability's not an issue, can I get away with going straight from polish to the P21S?

I had to take the car out last weekend so hit it with a quick coat of NXT wax for protection - nice result but not "the ultimate" IMO.

Thanks.

~One mans opinion / observation~

Zanio Bros ‘Z’ system (Z-7 Wash Concentrate, Z-2 Polish, ZFX Cure Accelerator, Z-6 Gloss Enhancer Spray)

Why- on darker coloured cars, the protection of a sealant with the look of a Carnauba wax

~ Hope this helps ~

It sounds like your polish and prep routine will yield a very good surface to achieve the results you want but since durability is not a high priority, why the sealant? Personally I would experiment with various carnauba based waxes before going any sealant route. I guess I should qualify that comment a little….You indicated deep, wet and gloss as the characteristics that are important to you, but unfortunately how I define these terms may be different than how you do. For example I think that Zaino has a very reflective and bright shine type of look with a very slick surface. I would not define the Zaino “lookâ€ as deep or wet, but highly reflective maybe glossy (which is fine an I use it on my daily drivers all the time because I like the look and the durability). However you may look at that same surface and think it looks deep and wet. So my perspective on the “lookâ€ of a product is bias towards my definition.

The P21S is good wax and I have used it on my wife’s black (non-metallic) car numerous times. I does give a very “deep and “wet look, but I don’t really call it glossy. But once again that is my opinion.

Depending on what NXT was lacking for you I am not sure that a sealant like Zaino will do it for you either. I my opinion and limited use of NXT I thought it had a more similar look to Zaino. Not as reflective as Zaino in my opinion, but maybe a little “deeper and “wetter looking than Zaino. “Softer is how I would describe it. Of course these are just my observation from my limited use of it and to be honest the surface prep I did for the car was somewhat limited. In my opinion Zaino is more glossy. I guess I equated the look of NXT to the Klasse twins (which is the other sealant people will recommend). I have never been successful with using the Klasse twins on black, it always looks "streaky" and I just gave up. Others have had very good success.

I am sure other will chime in with recommendations. Maybe a topper is your solution, but I can’t give you any experience with regard to them because am not a big topper fan and rarely do it.

The last suggestion is to do a search for AMP99's black BMW with Poorboys EX and something elese I think. Of the pictures I have seen on this forum is may be the best looking black non-metallic car I have seen for depth, wetness, and gloss.

If it's a garage queen, just go for the wax -- P21S or Meguiar's #16. I used to use #16 exclusively on my non-cleared black vehicles and they always looked great.

Although Z2 is perfectly fine for single stage paint (I've used it on mine before), Zaino Z3 is specially formulated for non-clearcoated cars. I'm almost certain that there are no cosmetic differences between the two.
