Scruff marks from feet on doors

Ok first of all, I promise you I searched over and over for this answer before posting. ;)

What can I use to get rid of door-scruff marks on the inside of my car door? No matter how careful I am, I have managed to put two marks and they're driving me crazy. I've tried very mild soap and water to no effect. The surface is black plastic/vinyl.

I'm happy to buy something off the Internet, but if it's something I can find locally in a parts store, even better.

Thanks in advance....

1) Simple Green & a toothbrush

2) Orange Blast & a toothbrush

If these fail then I would try:

1) Mequiar's APC+

2) EF Hi-Intensity<--The Bestest stuff I've ever used!:bow

Of course, always spot test FIRST...don't want to dissolve/melt the vinyl...LOL

Good results have been reported with the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Found in supermarkets in 2-packs for 2 bucks (but that may have been the introductory price).

Let us know how this works if you try it.

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser?

I'll buy one of those two and see which one does a better job. I'm assuming it would be in the aisle with the household cleaning stuff like Endust and 409?

Yes, it's sold as a general cleaning supply, mostly for house cleaning, but it does mention it for use in car interiors.

Some of the marketing blurb in the package:

"The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is an innovative cleaning material that penetrates surface grooves where dirt and grime get trapped. It easily and thoroughly breaks up tough dirt, lifting it away from the surfaces. And, it does all this with just water alone! Scuff Marks * Set-In Dirt and Grime * Soap Scum"

"Cleans scuff marks and dirt from walls, floors and doors"

"*Car interiors, boat interiors, even wheels"

"*Athletic shoe soles, leather uppers and much more!"

I gues their motto is, "Cleans everything for a buck!"

Sounds like a good product to have around the house, regardless.

I'll give em both a shot and post my findings in this thread later tonight (if anybody cares).

Pic for ya....

DefBringer, we care :) If there's one thing I hate on here, its reading a thread about someone who goes to do or buy something and you don't hear the final outcome.......its soooooooo annoying.

ps. glad the clay prob has cleared up :)

ok guys, here are the results of using the Mr. Clean Eraser. I picked the worst lighting possible to make it look as bad as possible. In daylight its not really this visible. The before picture is still a little wet from me running a wet cloth over the area first before using the Eraser.

needless to say, this product did not work for me. I am a bit discouraged but will try Simple Green and a toothbrush tomorrow although I do not expect that to get it out either. Notice the wax-stain from the California Duster that I had previously stored there. I'll have to find something to get that out as well. :-/

Upon further consideration, I think I might need some sort of conditioner. Those marks are not dirt but an abrasion on the surface (even though I cannot actually feel the abrasion). Would something like an interior protectant help restore and condition the surface? Or do you think my observation is incorrect?

I have a neutral/beige in my alero and have scuffed in the same spot. I took some STP interior protectant spray and applied it, it is now gone :) It's the stuff in the yellow stp bottle. Good luck.

Thank you, I will try some of that. Of course, now I have to find out where to buy it. We don't have Pepboys here and the selection of Meg's products in stores is appalling.

I've found that most vinyl cleaners and conditioners I've tried removed scuff marks like that in my car. Here's a link if you want to get some stuff online. Shiping isnt to bad either.

I would also first check the yellow pages for any paint/autobody shops in your area. I found one near me that stocks most of the meguiars pro line. Also you might want to go here

I also get that a lot on my door sills too...

I've used 303 protectant or Vinylex...and that usually cleans it up until the next time I dirty it...

MR. Clean Eraser magic is the bomb no doubt, I used it today on some car surfaces. Now my question, in a few spots where I used it like around my console and on the door it left a chalky white mark-film? Any recomendations on how to remove this? Is this stuff safe on doors and molding? I hope so cause it works great.

I used it as a test to remove some scuffs on the door panels and sills of my work car. Worked awesome ....:up
