scratches

Hi guys, this is my first post but ive been reading for a while now.

my gf's car (2003 vw jetta silver) has some fine scratches in a few locations on her car. I can feel them with my fingernail, but i cant quite "catch" my nail in it, i can just feel its presence. I am about to buy my PC, prob from CMA. I was going to buy this kit PC kit which comes with a backing plate and white pad. I was also going to buy this kit Polish kit so i can get the 3.5inch wool pad and backing plate. I dont realy need more MF cloths but they cant hurt. But my concern is the Menzerna polishes. Are they any good? I really never see you guys mention them. Do you think that their intensive polish will be able to remove these scratches? Also, the Final Polish is a polish that can be used on the whole car prior to waxing to remove swirls and light imperfections, correct???

If not just give me your recomendations and also give me a hint as to where i can get the smaller wool pads and backing plate.

Thanks for all your help and im sorry if im a pain in the arse, but if i dont fix them soon, i might die from hearing her complain about the scratches.

Biohazard- Better be careful about removing deep scratches like those. You don't want to cause clearcoat failure. Likewise, I dunno about using small wool pads on the PC. And the backing plate in that kit doesn't fit a PC. I think you oughta just get some regular cutting and polishing pads and work the tight spots by hand.

Can't help you with the Menzerna, I use 1Z/3m/Meg's polishes.

The two common Menzerna polishes are pretty fine, IMO. Menzerna has a more aggressive polish called PowerGloss, IIRC. You may want to get that one.

i would stay away from lambswool. i hope you don't really need that. It's better to start off easy and get more aggressive, if needed.

hey accumulator, thanks for the reply, the description of the product says it comes with the adaptor for the pc. but if you reccomend something different thats cool..which faom pads are for cutting? orange or yellow? which for polishing? white? also which 1z/3m/megs products would you use in this case?

tom p, thank you too,

I’ve put this together to help you ‘find your way around’, it’s a lot of reading but worthwhile.

After reading the House Rules (upper left of the home page) that will tell you a bit about our operating procedures (and then Acronyms) Suggest you start at David’s guide (Learn icon – Car Care Topics) and/or (Forum – University) you could also research FAQ (go to Interact-Features-FAQ) or Interact (Search) and then ask your questions on (Forums - University) there are also tips on products under Shop (How-To) plus be sure to check on the discounts available to forum members. And there’s the (Reviews) section that includes the Hall of Fame, where contributing members have posted their evaluation of products.

The Autopia “Guide to detailing eBook (eBook Subscription) covers most facets of vehicle detailing, it only costs $9.95, and that money helps to support this forum. If Autopia solves just one of your detailing problems it’s worth the price of admission
